Word on the street is that Intel is gearing up for a significant update to its ultra-low voltage mobile chips, with a 1.46GHz Core i7 (68UM) lined up to be released in the fall. The ship is said to have the same 18W thermal peak potential, but could reach up to 2.53GHz when running in Turbo Boost mode. As with other Core i7 processors, that chip will additionally offer Hyperthreading, performing like a four-core chip with optimized programs. Pricing wasn’t mentioned, but hopefully it won’t break the bank.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X201 line has just leaked out, where we now know that it offers subtle upgrades on its exterior, while the 12″ ultraportable device will see major changes made within thanks to the inclusion of Intel’s latest processors. A standard model is able to hold a dual-core 2.66GHz Core i7 processor, while the slimline X201 will feature the low-voltage 2.13GHz i7 as its best performer. Regardless of which route you choose to take, either model will come with a 2-megapixel webcam, the choice of a trackpad or not as well as a docking station. No notion on when the new ThinkPad will produce its appearance, so stay tuned!

Word has it that an update to the MacBook Air may see a delay by several weeks considering of delays in the ultra-low voltage Core i5 from Intel. Apparently, Intel is whispered to push back the 1.06GHz i5-520UM versus its full-power counterparts, which would mean Apple is forced to not update their ultra-slim notebook at the same moment as the MacBook Pro, or prolong the shipping period. We’re pretty certain that folks who want a new MacBook Air will be disappointed, but at least that disappointment won’t involve any order cancellations or the lack of an older processor – some patience would go a lengthy way in such situations.
