With all the goods that Google has in Google Maps and Google Earth, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to see that Google has used all that input to come up with a 3D city effect of New York City. So now, instead of navigating boring city maps from the top-down, you can literally zoom into the city and move around at ground level, getting a feel of the city from a pedestrian’s view. Currently only a few cities in the world have received that treatment such as London, Cape Town and New York City. So perhaps you can skip buying that plane ticket to fly to London for a holiday, now that Google can bring you there, eh? Check out the video after the jump.

There will plus be a mouse and netbook case (available in pink or brown) to match the stylish design of the netbook. While there isn’t any mention of the price just yet, have you already made up your mind to purchase that netbook?

We’ve started to see Augmented Reality (AR) pop up in all sorts of places nowadays, such as mobile phones, gaming, scavenger hunts and even buildings. So what’s the next bold step for AR? It seems like it’ll be the fashion scene. Designers by in London have come up with 3D animation “softwear”, which ties in AR with their fashion designs. With that in place, models used a symbol on the clothing to activate the animation on the display, after which the model (in the display) was fitted with some rather weird headgear and surrounded by dancing figures. What should we expect next, from Augmented Reality technology?

You might have heard of Square, which is a prototype payment device that plugs into your iPhone’s headphone jack, allowing it to be turned into a credit card terminal. Now it seems that Square is going to have some competition on its hands from the Berlin and London-based iCharge. On paper, they seem to operate in a similar manner, with iCharge allowing any small trader to receive payments via credit card using that device, and an iPhone or a phone running Google’s Android. Users will be able to swipe their credit cards on the little device attached to the phone, and sign their signature directly on the phone’s touchscreen. A receipt can be emailed to the customer, and the location of the transaction will plus be noted down via GPS. iCharge will be running a limited trial run with choose retailers that summer, with a wider launch scheduled for Q3 of 2010. It certain sounds a lot like Square, so it’ll be interesting to see which device is released to the public earlier, and how they will perform.

This is probably just what you need during the next World Cup finals. that robot, aptly called the Heineken Bot, was created by the folks by at Middlesex University, and displayed at the Kinetica Art Fair in London. It’ll steadily invent its rounds along a preprogrammed path, and all you have to do is hover your hand above its sonar-sensing head, pop a cup into its holder and you’ll be rewarded with a nice drink, perfect to see your country win the World Cup. possibly whether they mass produced that before the World Cup, it’d turn into a nice and healthy business.

Tanita managed to turn their common pedimeter, a $77 device known as the FB-730, into one that is able to send goods to a nearby RFID travel card which is similar to those found on train and bus networks in Japan, Hong Kong and London. Once you have arrived home, all relevant details can be synchronized with a computer followed by uploading it to the company’s Karada Karute (Body Card) website, where one is able to monitor one’s ongoing progress. The current system from Tanita works only in Japan, but it has worldwide potential that can be explored sometime in the future.

We’re all so used to multi-touch zooming nowadays, it really does build you feel intrigued when you can get hold of a traditional paper map that you can zoom in. No, you won’t be pinching the map with 2 fingers; rather it can be unfolded into a zoomed version of the map, giving you a detailed view of that section of the map. Of course, it’s not going to be as flexible as a digital map, but it’s still something that you can easily stuff into your backpack and not have to distress about it running out of batteries. It’s printed on tear-resistant paper, and includes a clear PVC wallet to keep it protected. Dubbed Map2, it’s currently going for $13, and only covers the downtown part of London, so it might not be useful to you, but it’s still a cool novelty item, right? Check out a video of it in action.

How much do you love your gadgets? Do you care about them suitable to get them blessed in a church? Well, it seems that is the case by in London, as Rev. Canon David Parrott blessed a bunch of laptops and smartphones at the altar, apparently to remind busy office workers that God’s grace can reach them in many ways. Is that modernization? We certain love at gadgets and gizmos, but would you want your pastor to bless your gadgets?

If you’re on O2’s network, chances are that you experienced some network issues with the carrier before Christmas. Now O2 has come out and offered an apology via the Financial Times. In its apology, the carrier claims that was it was caught unawares by excessive input use and described the problems as a “short term blip”. According to O2, there will be more base stations rolled out, which should certainly help boost its network. An additional 200 base stations in London will plus be added, which will certainly help to increase the amount of stress it can take, particularly during periods of heavy traffic.
