Superbus Designed By Students manufacture Public Transportation Look Cool

It’s not often you construct out something dubbed “super” and find out that it’s additionally an eco-oriented product, but that’s just what the Superbus is. The students at UT Delft in the Netherlands have come up with a prototype Superbus, which is an electric-powered machine, sporting a carbon fiber shell, low chassis, and 16 individual gull-wing doors. Thanks to its lithium-polymer battery pack that powers its motors (up to 800hp whether we may add), it’s a zero-emission vehicle, and can travel up to 130 miles before needing to be juiced up. Passengers will have to book their seats in advance, either by calling or texting a pickup duration and location to the driver, after which the driver will figure out the quickest and most efficient way to get everybody to their desired destination.

DOK-ING XD electric car

DOK-ING XD electric car

They say never to judge a book by its cover, and we guess that the same can be said of the DOK-ING XD electric car - after all, it does looks rather diminutive in nature, but that made in Croatia set of wheels is capable of accelerating from a standstill to 100km/h in but 7.7 seconds. Granted, it is pretty light in nature at just 100kgs, measuring 2.8m enlarged, but the 80kW/360Nm electric motor which is powered by lithium-ion-phosphate batteries packs quite a punch. Apart from that, it can recharge in 8 hours, which means you'd do well to juice it up during the night before the next day begins.

New Lithium-sulfur Batteries From The Folks At Stanford

New Lithium-sulfur Batteries From The Folks At Stanford

All the coolest gadgets in the market probably have a common problem – battery life. With plenty of external batteries being created to sustain your iPhone when used in an extended trip, it’s obvious that battery technology is lagging behind. whether the new lithium-sulfur technology developed by the folks at Stanford becomes mature, we might just have a solution to our battery woes. that new technology is apparently safer, and more importantly (actually safety is probably more important); it currently achieves 80 percent more capacity than lithium-ion batteries. The downside is that it’s still far from becoming a mass market product, as the charge cycles of just 40-50 times compared to the 300-500 times of lithium-ion batteries aren’t anything to shout about. Hopefully they manage to tweak it and we’ll see a significant boost in battery life in all our devices sooner rather than later.

Iwatani fuel-cell assisted bicycle

Iwatani Corp. of Japan have come up with a new fuel-cell assisted bicycle which charges a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery using a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) system, where it is able to garner an output of about 60W. Hydrogen is the fuel of choice here, where it is stored in a hydrogen cartridge. A full charge allows one to travel up to 45km on the bicycle itself on average, although that is largely dependant on your cycling condition. There are no plans to commercialize the bicycle, although the company is working on enhancing the output capability of the PEFC system.

Empower rocking chair keeps energy for future use

Empower rocking chair keeps energy for future use

Ryan Klinger has come up with the Empower rocking chair that is made up of a flat-pack chair of tubes as well as a sling seat which folds out to a bench-style glider seat. Since the rocking mechanism is connected to a gearbox, DC generator, voltage controller and lithium battery, that means all kinetic energy generated can be used later on. All energy is converted through the use of a DC/AC inverter and can be accessed by a USB or standard potential outlet in order for it to be connected to other devices in dire need of juice, including a notebook, MP3 player or other gizmos.
