LED skirt lights up the night

LED skirt lights up the night

Fashion design student Kristi Kuusk who is a student at University of São Paulo came up with the bright view (no pun intended) of a LED crocheted skirt. Interestingly abundant, the sparkle will light up only when the skirt and ring come together, where the LEDs will soon after light up as a reflection of snow’s shiny effect in the darkness. Definitely not something we're going to send to the washing machine just like that, since the upkeep and maintenance of such tech-inclined fashion wear is possibly more trouble than it is worth.

Strobeshnik Hard Drive Clock

Strobeshnik Hard Drive Clock

If you can’t figure out what to do with your old hard drives lying around the floor, you could always try and emulate what modder Svofski has done. Dubbed the Strobeshnik, it’s a hard drive that’s been turned into a clock that uses a stroboscopic effect to produce it look like the numbers on the clock are persistent on the face of the drive platter, when in reality the platter is spinning very fast. The set of LEDs behind the platter, coupled with a custom controller circuit makes the effect you see in the video (below). When it first starts up, the numbers don’t mean anything, but when it works itself up to speed, it does look quite cool. The funny thing is, that clock’s platter spins counter-clockwise, which seems rather ironic for a clock. Video after the jump.

M3 Neony And M3 Synchy Robots

M3 Neony And M3 Synchy Robots

Robots seem to get cooler (and yet somehow plus scarier) everyday. Now two professors from Osaka University have come up with two new robots, dubbed the M3-neony and M3-synchy. The “M3” mentioned here actually stands for “Man-Made-Man”, which is probably just another fancy way of calling it a robot.

The M3-neony is used to research the development of fine motor skills, such as learning to crawl through trial and error, as well as human assistance through physical contact. It’s about 50cm tall, weighs in at 3.5kg and sports a pair of CMOS cameras for sight and microphones for hearing.

The M3-synchy is a mass communication robot that focuses on verbal and non-verbal communication, such as facial expressions and arm gestures. that 30cm, 2.5kg robot is armed with a loner wide-angle lens CCD camera, two microphones, a speaker and 15 LEDs which can construct the robot blush bright red.

112 LED Coffee Table

112 LED Coffee Table

Joe's come up with the 112 LED coffee table that looks absolutely gorgeous in any living room, particularly for those who want a contemporary touch. that is made possible thanks to the configuration which is explained in the excerpt below in more detail.

Driving that grid is an ATmega328 in i2c slave mode. It listens for display notes from a second ATmega328 and uses that to set the array of TLC5940 driven LEDs appropriately. Separating the processing microcontroller from the display microcontroller allows for fast and smooth display changes that can be seen after the break. Joe's table exhibits exquisite cable management, clean cipher, and an amazing amount of flexibility.

Sounds like the perfect addition to spruce up your living room, eh?
