New Dolby Mobile with 5.1 Genuine Surround Sound at MWC
February 15, 2010

[MWC 2010] Dolby Laboratories is releasing its new version of Dolby Mobile, featuring discrete 5.1 multichannel surround sound. Dolby will held its first public demonstration of its latest technology on an LG Android-based smartphone. I was invited to analysis the previous version of Dolby Mobile on an LG phone at their headquarters, and you can really take in the difference when Dolby Mobile is on and off. The next version of Dolby Mobile includes the Dolby Digital Plus Technology that enables "realistic surround sound for headphone playback as well as genuine 5.1-channel surround sound playback on home entertainment setups from the mobile device via HDMI" according to Rolf Schmitz, Marketing Director, Mobile, Dolby Laboratories.
If you would like to take in the demo, stop by Dolby's booth at MWC, Stand 1C43, I have not heard it yet, so write a comment to let me know how it is. The current version of Dolby Mobile will be showcased as well on some of the latest LG handsets such as the LG Mini GD880 (picture) so you will be able to compare both. In the full write-up, you can see a list of some of the devices featuring the current version of Dolby Mobile.

Cypress Semiconductor and their latest TrueTouch technology is applicable to capacitive screens which range anywhere from 7" to 17" in size, where all of them will boast multitouch support. Just to stress on how workable their technology is, Cypress Semiconductor recently unveiled a 14" tablet-sized prototype display that can recognize - get that, unlimited finger touches. Being Windows 7 certified, we could very well see that seem in notebooks and tablet PCs down the road, although there is no official announcement on an actual product release just yet.

Fiddle With Your Mercedes Via iPhone
November 19, 2009

It’s great to see that Mercedes is keeping in touch with the latest technology, particularly cell phones. testimony to that is the partnership of Mercedes-Benz USA and Hughes Telematics Inc to come up with mbrace, a new telematics offering that allows you to connect your iPhone or BlackBerry to the car. You’ll thereupon be able to lock or unlock your vehicle, locate it in a crowded parking lot or in city streets through a map on your phone, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Too poor the system doesn’t allow your phone to drive the car around, or you could be vying to be the next 007.
