Translation programs have always been troublesome as you need to keep switching back and forth within languages, since both parties generally don’t understand what each other is saying. Now an upcoming iPhone app is looking to tackle that problem by providing a double-ended multilingual translator. What it does is it offers two sets of keyboards, one for each party, allowing each person to type in their own native language and have the sentence translated at the other end, allowing both parties to converse easily. There will be 51 different languages supported, including non-Latin keyboards for languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Thai, Czech, Hebrew and Ukrainian.

Do you think that chorded keyboards (or keysets), are one-handed input devices that allow folks to type characters with key combinations, are ugly and boring? Well, designer Erik Campbell decided to refresh the chorded keyboard’s design, and looked to a jellyfish for inspiration, and came up with the design above. It might look like a classy USB hub at a glance, but rest assured, you’re still able to update your Facebook status with that.

Check out that steampunk iteration of a desktop setup, where a whole lot of sweat as well as customization has been thrown in. There is a significant amount of wood as well as brass included in the mix so that it achieves a right balance of anatomy and operate. According to the designers, “These custom-made keyboards, framed monitors and computers are completely functional, but with a 19th century/ steampunk aesthetic.” What do you think of that effort?

Can’t decide what to do with your old iMac keyboards? Well, you could always turn them into clocks or magnetic note boards, as what some folks have done. Of course, we’re talking about the old candy colored iMac keyboards, not Apple’s current generation of sleek keyboards. The recycled keyboards (which have been converted to said items) are currently going from $29.95 to $34.95, so whether you’re too lazy to do some DIY by the weekend, you know what to do.

Hmmm, unless the mouse that you purchased is some third party OEM device from a shady looking computer store and not from a reputable sort, thereupon you might need the PADandCLICK system as it offers gel pads that can be stuck onto mice and keyboards to keep those mouse clicks comfortable. Looks out of place whether you ask us, but we guess operate by mold is the main view here. A set of PADandCLICK gels will retail for $5 or $7, depending on whether you pick the regular model or the heavily padded version.

Physical keyboards on mobile devices are generally boring and clunky, but what whether Pelikon’s MorphPad is implemented in future phones, things might be interesting again for physical keyboards. When it’s fully lit, the MorphPad looks just like any other keyboard, but with some trickery in the backlighting, it can control what is displayed on the keypad, such as illuminating just the numeric keys when you want to assemble a phone signal, or displaying a game controller pad when you’re playing a game. Pelikon is already partnered with companies such as Toshiba on various projects, so perhaps we’ll be seeing the MorphPad in future phones? Check out the full commentary for a video on that.

Sony has filed a patent for what they dub the Universal Game Controller, and here is the description of what could very well change the landscape of console gaming in the near future.

A universal game console controller that has an LCD presenting, depending on what type of game console a user has input, a controller key layout for a first type of game console or a controller key layout for a second type of game console.

While keyboards for computers have achieved a similar operate before, that one is different since it is done entirely on an LCD display, letting you change the buttons completely depending on the game that you’re indulging in at the moment. Do you think that that controller will ever see action on Sony’s rival Xbox 360 and Wii systems?

The folks by at fuRo (Future Robotics Technology Center) have come up with the WIND (Wireless Intelligent Networked Device), which is a wearable robot controller. So instead of having to fiddle with buttons, keyboards and joysticks, you’ll be able to wear that, and the sensors in the vest will translate your movements into commands that will wirelessly control a robot. The WIND uses a SiP (System in Package) chip, which offers the full functionality of a personal computer on a without semiconductor. whether you’re still wondering how all that is possible, you’ve got to see it to believe it.

Fingerworks was acquired by Apple nearly 5 years back, but the website was still online and functional, all the way up until recently. The domain is now parked at Delaware.net, and the takedown of the site has prompted speculation that the upcoming Apple tablet will have some of the more advanced multi-touch keyboard gestures that Fingerworks pioneered. Before the site was taken down, it still retained photographs and details of their multi-touch keyboards and gesture pads that were released for Macs years ago. Does that mean that those features will be incorporated into the Apple tablet? It’s hard to tell for certain, but it’s certainly possible that Apple would do it.
