If you bought a China Unicom iPhone in China, you’ll most likely have noticed that it doesn’t offer Wi-Fi, as it was initially disabled for the Chinese market, thanks to government regulations that favored the home-developed WAPI shield standard. The rules have been relaxed since thereupon, so Wi-Fi iPhones are now allowed, as distant as they continue to include support for the WAPI standard as an added operate. China Unicom’s Chief Executive, Chang Xiaobing, was quoted in the Wall Street Journal saying that the company would consider giving some scheme of compensation to existing iPhone owners in the style of improved 3G tariffs, though chances are users would much rather see Wi-Fi in their phones. Word is plus going around that Unicom might lower the iPhone’s asking price from 4,999-6,999 Yuan to 3,000-3,500 Yuan, and whether that’s true, it’ll certainly help boost the iPhone sales in China.

March 7, 2010

The lack of video calls has been an irritating issue to many iPhone users who view video calling as an fundamental feature of contemporary phones. Many rumors have been hinting that the next generation iPhone, the iPhone 4G, will be getting a front-facing camera, and will support video calls. Now it seems that the O2 UK site has listed the price of video calling for iPhones in its tariff chart. Could that be an error by a sloppy designer, or is it an accidental leak, and a sign of things to come? Is video calling an crucial feature for you, or do you think that it’s just a waste of date?

iPhone Sausage Stylus Comes To The US
March 6, 2010
Word was going around that the folks by in South Korea have been using snack sausages, which apparently are electrostatically compatible with the iPhone’s touchscreen, as a stylus for their iPhones, making them particularly useful in the winter when you can’t use the iPhone’s touch screen through your gloves. Now CaseCrown, a company that busies itself selling iPhone cases has picked up a large shipment of said sausages, and is currently offering them for a limited moment at $0.99 each. Of course, carrying a snack sausage around with you to operate your iPhone doesn’t precisely scream “cool”, but at least you won’t get hungry, right?

Virgin America Ditches Flash by Lack Of iPhone Support
March 3, 2010

Apple’s feud with Adobe is fast becoming one of the more prominent issues, so you can fully expect to see Apple smiling from ear to ear by the latest news that Virgin America has dumped Flash on its website due to the lack of iPhone support. The new website, which was launched on Monday, will be replacing Flash with HTML in order to allow customers to check in via their iPhones, not to mention that it’s planning on moving the site to HTML5, once the standards have been ratified with the World Wide Web Consortium. Will the dismissal of Flash help Virgin America in the faraway run due to (possible) increased web traffic? It’s hard to tell right now, but hopefully there will be a positive impact for everybody. Do you think that Apple or Adobe will emerge the victor in that enlarged running saga?

AT&T download speeds seem fastest among rivals
February 24, 2010

Statistics, damned statistics! Well, depending on which point of view you come from, we suppose you can always conjure a rosy picture about your specific product. Take the case of mobile carriers, where everyone claims to have the fastest speed normally, and that moment round AT&T emerges as the obvious winner within a tussle with Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon. Based on tests done by PCWorld in December of 2009 and January of 2010, it shows AT&T hitting average download speed 812 Kbps and average upload speed 660 Kbps, which is the highest among its rivals. One good thing is AT&T has improved tremendously by the past year, but next again the tryout criteria was not revealed. After all, we did run into many public complaining about the slowness of their 3G connection on their iPhones on the CES showfloor last month, so go figure.
