Word is going around that Intel has informed its resellers not to expect its upcoming 6-core Xeon 5600 chips in significant quantities until the end of spring. While there wasn’t any reason given, speculation is that the recent shortage of the 32nm Intel processors has affected Intel’s stock of Xeons as well. whether that is true, it would go some way to explaining the lack of an update for high-end workstations like Apple’s Mac Pro. In case you haven’t been following it, the Mac Pro hasn’t been updated since March last year, which is quite some date for a cutting edge computer to be left out. Are you looking forward to getting a new workstation powered by Intel’s Xeon 5600 chip?

The new Intel Atom Z6xx series of processors that we covered earlier that morning is no flash in a pan, considering it is more than capable of running Quake 3 at a phenomenal 100fps, which is way faster than what top-of-the-line machines back in the day when Quake 3 was first released to the masses could ever muster. Imagine that, it looks like prime moment gaming could finally have arrived on your everyday cellphone processor. While 100fps is fine and dandy, bear in mind that you will most probably find the game unplayable at such speeds, but it is nice to know that you can rely on such firepower when needed, including processing full HD resolution video without breaking a sweat. Enjoy the video!

Guess the use of Intel’s Atom processors are no longer limited to just netbooks, as Archos forges a new path with their Archos A13PS notebook. Sporting a 13.3″ display, it runs on the Intel Atom D510 Pine Trail processor, which happens to be Intel’s latest dual core version of its Atom line, complete with integrated GMA 3150 graphics. Word on the street has it that the Archos A13PS will be running on Windows 7 Home Premium operating system, but more details should surface when April rolls around since that is when the notebook would be released.

Synology has announced a couple of NAS drives that will target home consumers as well as those who are serious about enterprise usage. Powered by Intel processors, they run on an embedded Linux operating system for superior performance. First off is the enterprise-grade NAS, the Synology DS1010+ that boasts a five-bay expansion enclosure, capable of handling either 2.5″ or 3.5″ SATA drives. Apart from that, it can manage RAID levels 1, 2 or 6 while offering an eSATA port just in case you require more storage space. As for the DiskStation DS110j, that consumer model is powered by an 800MHz processor and will be able to hold only one 2.5″ or 3.5″ SATA drive of your choice, sans RAID support to boot. The DS1010+ is tipped to ship from March onwards, while the DS110j can now be purchased for $150.

Intel’s Atom Oak Trail processors are on their way to hit the market, and it is rumored to replace the existing Atom Z5xx series of processors which currently see action in a bunch of mobile devices such as the Sony Vaio P and Asus Eee PC T91MT touchscreen tablet. Currently, the family of Z520, Z530 and other Z-series processors more or less consume less juice compared to the Intel Atom N-series processors, and are accompanied by an integrated GMA 500 graphics chipset that boasts HD video acceleration, albeit resulting in a more sluggish performance somewhat oeverall. Oak Trail processors ought to sip less energy than its Pine Trail counterparts, but will only target devices such as tablets and smartphones.

Intel has decided to update their line of Pine Trail Atom processors, where these new ones will come into existence sometime in Q3 that year. Unlike other updates that more often than not includes changes in aspects such as speed, capability consumption and overall performance, that one takes a totally different route by including DDR3 RAM support. Compared to current Atom systems, the N450 and N470 chips can only handle DDR2 RAM. that ought to see a jump in performance for future netbooks that carry such update Pine Trail processors, where solid benchmark figures will give us a better concept thereupon. whether you aren’t in a rush to purchase a netbook, soon after you might want to hold out until Q3 2010 rolls around.

Apple’s Mac Pro hasn’t been updated since way back in September 2009 when the Quad-Core model received support for 16GB of RAM. Now reports are indicating that the Core i7-980X and Core i7-970 processors might be arriving that month. whether you still remember, Apple was the first to use the Nehalem Xeon, thanks to an exclusivity deal with Intel, and whether history is going to repeat itself, we might see Apple having exclusivity with Intel’s latest processors for a while. These processors will be the first dual-socket, six-core processor from Intel. When you take into consideration that the processor will sport 6 cores and 12 threads, a dual-processor configuration will mean the i7-980X Mac Pro will sport 12 physical cores and 24 logical cores with a top frequency of 3.33GHz. whether that’s the case, you might want to hold off purchasing a new PC/Mac for the moment.

[CES 2010] The Vantage liquid cooling system from CoolIT targets high performance computer enthusiasts who want to overclock their machines while making certain its innards does not suffer from a meltdown. The Vantage A.L.C. will hit the market in six weeks’ moment thereabouts for $124.99, where you get a ESP Tech-enabled Fan Node that is capable of “talking” to a virtually unlimited range of compatible sensors, pumps, fans and LED lights so that your machine will be dynamically cooled at all times. You get a LCD interface on the pump that shows your system’s status and current operation mode for easy diagnosis of what’s going on inside, which means you will need to use a transparent case chassis. In layman’s terms, that model works with both AMD and Intel processors, and you are able to manipulate the cooling system via included software according to your needs with just a few mouse clicks. Now how about that for convenience?
