At some point in instance we’ve all taken a gadget out in the sun, only to find that the reflection from the sun was too strong, making the display nearly unreadable. Now the brains by at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM in Freiburg, Germany, have come up with a new nanocoating that can be used in displays and spectacles that not only reduce reflections, it’s additionally scratch-proof and easy to clean. Would you believe that they got their inspiration from moths? Apparently the moth’s facet eyes are perfectly non-reflective, allowing them to better hide from predators. So while we’re not trying to wear spectacles that’d turn us into moths, it’s still cool to look forward to a coating that will reduce glare and prevent scratches.

When you first lay your eyes on that, chances are you will think that that is some sort of HTPC or small mold factor machine from a computer manufacturer. You will be pleasantly surprise to find out that that is the brainchild and handiwork of Andrew Macdonald, who came up with the case mod with his Xbox as an inspiration. that passively cooled machine will come with HDMI, optical and coax S/PDIF, eSATA, and USB connectivity alongside 802.11n Wi-Fi support and a hot-swappable drive bay. An Intel Atom 330 1.6GHz processor is accompanied by NVIDIA ION graphics, 4GB RAM and a custom Windows XP hack running Boxee Beta as its operating system of choice. An internal flash drive helps keep things running quiet underneath the chassis.

Looks like an obvious Photoshop job to us, but who knows, someone out there might just gain “inspiration” from that and actually churn out something like it?

The Tok Took capability Plug concept gets its inspiration from your common retractable pen with a toggle system. The prongs of that capability plug are safely hidden away until you place it against the socket and push. When you want to unplug the device, just push it in again, and the prongs will be retracted, freeing the ability plug, and reducing the risk of you getting an electric shock. Check out a video of that concept in action after the jump.

Can’t decide what you can do with (or to) your iPad to assemble it stand out from the rest of the pack? You can always try and get some inspiration from the guy who did some nice DIY to fit the iPad into his vehicle. From the looks (or sound) of it, the iPad has plus been hooked up to the vehicle’s speakers, which would prepare sense, since your vehicle’s speakers are probably larger than the iPad’s tiny speakers. Considering that it’s going into a vehicle, possibly they should have waited until the 3G version comes out, as it’ll come bundled with A-GPS, making Google Maps much more useful. Check out the whole process, including the results, in the video that we have in the full post.

Do you think that chorded keyboards (or keysets), are one-handed input devices that allow folks to type characters with key combinations, are ugly and boring? Well, designer Erik Campbell decided to refresh the chorded keyboard’s design, and looked to a jellyfish for inspiration, and came up with the design above. It might look like a classy USB hub at a glance, but rest assured, you’re still able to update your Facebook status with that.

The Gentoo concept car gets its inspiration from the Gentoo penguin, and in all honestly, from the looks of it, it seems to be just big ample to ferry the penguin around, not certain about human beings, though. Apparently the view of that car was to manufacture it look cute, and it certainly does so, though it’s hard to tell whether it had to sacrifice practicality in order to do so. The Gentoo uses a self-balancing technology and is powered by lithium battery technology, ensuring that it’s a green machine. You have to confess that it does look rather cute.

Gary of Bit-tech forums has come up with the case mod you see up here, where it receives most of its inspiration from the early era of electronics during the first couple of decades in the past century. Interestingly sufficient, Gary managed a feat that many would not have noticed at first glance – he put in a whole water cooling system within, and has come up with a pretty detailed dossier on the steps taken to achieve such lovely retro perfection. Let us hope that the wood is treated so that termites won’t go ahead and invent a literal meal out of it by the course of a few years.

No, we don’t mean to say that Teclast has Apple in its crosshair with the X13-S01, but rather, they drew inspiration from Cupertino’s design of the MacBook Air. The X13-S01 (how tongue-unfriendly is that naming convention) will feature a 13.3″ display, but apart from that we know nothing else of its specifications. It measures less than 1cm thin at the thinnest section, while the thickest segment stands at approximately 2.3cm, coming in a gray aluminum chassis and a white keyboard to complete its homage to the fruity company. No concept on pricing or availability, but you can bet your iPod collection that that will not come remotely close to what folks are willing to fork out for an actual Apple equivalent.

Swimman has worked in the iPod shuffle (third generation) by waterproofing the device, allowing it to remain working when underwater up to 25 feet without any additional weight or bulk. that is made possible thanks to its proprietary internal waterproofing technology, providing full and complete protection against sweat, snow, rain and water damage. Folks who live an active lifestyle and love to carry their music along with them as a scheme of inspiration won’t be disappointed with Swimman’s efforts, that’s for certain.
