Nokia and Dolby have announced that they’re collaborating to bring Dolby’s surround sound technologies into choose phone worldwide. that announcement comes hot on the heels of the unveiling of Nokia’s N8 smartphone that already incorporates Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound technology. With that in place, users will be able to enjoy Dolby Digital Plus surround sound by hooking the N8 up a home theater system via an HDMI connection. Are you looking forward to more mobile phones that incorporate Dolby’s audio magic in it, or are you nonchalant about audio quality on mobile devices?

Maybe folks should incorporate that Vinyl Workout interactive project into bars and clubs. What the Vinyl Workout does is that it projects a giant record on the floor which you can control by running around the top of the surface, the system will reply to the pace of running and direction. So when you’re walking slowly it’ll slow down and will play backwards or rewind when you start moving in the opposite direction, creating a playful environment. Check out a video of it in action after the jump.

You may love it or hate it, but the fact remains that Google Checkout is the payment option for the Android Market. But now it seems that there might be an alternative on its way in the anatomy of PayPal. The company has apparently found a way to incorporate its payments system with Google’s Android and will soon be offered as a payment option in the Android Market. The service is expected to be ready in Q2 2010 (which is just around the corner) and will be supported in several countries including the US, Australia, Canada, France, UK, Italy and the Netherlands.

RIM had previously mentioned that it would be making the BlackBerry Push APIs available to all developers for free in the first half of 2010, and it seems that the company is going to build good on that promise by offering two levels of push services. that is additionally great news for the end user, as while applications out there already produce use of push services, the services cost quite a bit for developers to implement, so with the latest offerings, developers should be able to cut down the cost of their applications, or perhaps even offer them for free. The push services offered are:

BlackBerry Push Essentials – is a free service that developers can incorporate into their applications and allows them to push composition to their customers with unparalleled immediacy.

BlackBerry Push Plus – which has a free tier and paid tiers, provides developers with notification that their push has been delivered. whether a composition provider needs to get info to someone, they can tell whether the target device has received the push.

The brilliant minds by a MIT have demonstrated the first laser that’s built from germanium, which is able to produce wavelengths of light useful for optical communication. Aside from that, it’s additionally the first germanium laser to operate at room temperature. While it might not be immediately obvious, one of the benefits of using germanium is that it’s easy to incorporate into the existing process for manufacturing silicon chips. Considering that we’ve been looking to go beyond simple electrical currents to transport our info, that is certainly a bold step in the right direction, as it’ll allow computers to move documents using light, instead of electricity. Of course, don’t expect to see that incorporated into the next computer you’re buying, but hopefully they’ll manufacture some good research on that, and we’ll have some really cool computers in the near future, eh?

Have you ever been stiffed by a cabbie that didn’t want to use the meter in their cab to calculate your fare? Well, whether the A-Rix concept device ever becomes a reality, we might see a rather nice solution to the problem. It’s a tamper proof device that can calculate the fare with the help of a GPS chip. When the meter starts, it’ll record your starting position, and measure the distance amidst 2 consecutive points to calculate the distanced traveled, giving you the exact fare. It does have some rather nifty features, such as location data being displayed, a clock, indicator for ‘hired’ status, and additionally a backlit LCD to ensure you can read whatever is being displayed. Are you currently happy with the ways taxis are run, or would you rather they incorporate something like that into their routine?

Granted, pico projectors haven’t really taken off just yet nor anytime in the near future, but that doesn’t mean hardware manufacturers won’t try to incorporate it in their future devices. Take HP for instance – they are working on a tablet PC and notebook that will feature an integrated pico-projector inside each of them. There is no proper prototypes shown off (or leaked) for the tablet just yet, but it could have its roots in the HP Touchsmart tablet PCs from all those years ago. As for the notebook, the projector will be placed on top of its display just like where most webcams are situated. It does assemble us wonder where the webcam will thereupon be placed – perhaps on a swiveling, pivoted segment right beside the projector?
