Just when you thought that Apple and Adobe could not get along, we have word from a discovered technical document that points toward a new Video Decode Acceleration framework within Mac OS X 10.6.3. In layman’s terms, that framework will offer developers with low-level access to the following GPUs – NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, GeForce 320M or GeForce GT 330M, which lets them access the graphical hardware to accelerate the decoding of H.264 videos, hence releasing the main processor for other tasks. Basically, you get a sped up system with a Flash player that runs smoother than ever before. Expect to see that boost encapsulate the MacBook Pro, Mac mini and iMac.

Can’t think of what to use your iPad for, aside for browsing the World Wide Web? Well, whether you’re using your iMac most of the instance, you can still construct use of your iPad, by turning it into an external multi-touch display via the iDisplay app. The app will connect to your iMac either by 3G or Wi-Fi, so you’ll be able to use it as a spare display, perhaps putting your chat windows in the iPad. Considering that the iDisplay app is $4.99, it’s certainly cheaper than buying a spare monitor (assuming you already have an iPad).

This Apple patent application involves something radically different, where it shows off an old-school iMac with a touchscreen display. Dubbed “Shape Detecting Input Device”, it was originally submitted a good half dozen years ago, with a continuation rolling out today. The more contemporary proposal involves a touchscreen display that not only functions as a pointer/input device, but additionally doubles up as a shape recognition device which will replace the key/lock system. Imagine someone placing a specially imprinted object on the display in order to verify one’s identity – now that’s pretty interesting. Of course, having that specific object stolen or lost could thereupon prove hazardrous, but we’re certain other failsafe mechanisms in the system are in store including the traditional password desire.

Have you ever heard how the older design of the iMac resembles a common lamp in your house? Why not manufacture that a reality, and turn your old iMac into a real lamp (shade)? It’s certainly going to manufacture it look like one expensive lampshade, but at least you know that your old iMac never really died, it just evolved and became something else. You have to confess, it certainly looks pretty, right?

After being the good boy and waiting for your shiny new Core i7 iMac to reach, you’d expect to have a happy and joyful day when it arrives, right? Well, it seems that it wasn’t the case for many folks who ordered the 27-inch Core i7 iMac. Reports are going around the Web that many iMacs were unable to boot when taken out of the box, and some were even worse, as there were reports of cracks at the bottom left corner of the screen. The box that the iMac came in seemed to be OK, so it’s highly possible that it’s a packing flaw. Unfortunately it will take about 2 weeks to get a replacement machine, though the good news is that Apple is taking responsibility for that and is busy sorting things out.
