The smart folks in that world seem to be focusing a lot of energy into getting robots into our homes, and the folks at the Advanced Control Lab at National Taiwan University have come up with a household entertainment robot called JULIA that can sing and even dance. Users will be able to interact with JULIA via voice commands or touchscreen. The display on JULIA is able to display various kinds of info from your home media server. You could even upgrade your house with sensors to turn it into a smart home environment that is capable of communicating with the robot, allowing JULIA to perform guard duty when you’re away from home. Would you be comfortable with a robot moseying around your home when you’re away?

Well, more data on the device has surfaced, and it certainly doesn’t look too poor.
We’re certain you’ve seen many external hard drives before, but how many of those that you’ve seen match your contemporary home décor, or doesn’t look like an eyesore? whether you’re looking for something to match your fashion-conscious household, you might want to check out Buffalo’s HD-AV2.0TU2 external hard drive. The little blue dots on the drive indicate how much space you’ve got left on the drive, whether you didn’t already guess that. Aside from the indicator lights, and the awesome design, it’s pretty much your standard external hard disk, and is available in sizes of 500GB, 1TB and 1.5TB sizes, which will be going for $150, $190 and $250 respectively.

Do you have a pacifist in your household who seems to be everyone’s doormat? Why not teach the said person the values of fighting for one’s rights using the Shocking Tanks from Amazon. After all, didn’t our President say that the use of force is essential to achieve peace? These radio-controlled shocking tanks will fire infrared beams, and the target, when hit, will see an electric shock sent to the said tank’s controller as a reminder not to stay out in the open but search for suitable cover and terrain in each battle. The $50 price tag will require you to stock up on rechargeable batteries though since you will need half a dozen AAA and an equal number of AA batteries to run the entire setup.

Sony makes another breakthrough with the FVA-U1 biometric reader which is touted to be the smallest and lightest USB finger vein reader in the world. Ready to hit Japan that coming December 18th, we wonder which household in Japan will receive that under the Christmas tree during the holiday season. Just to get a better view on how small that is, it tips the scales at a mere 33 grams while measuring 70mm x 14.5mm x 58mm in size.
