Word is going around that Intel has informed its resellers not to expect its upcoming 6-core Xeon 5600 chips in significant quantities until the end of spring. While there wasn’t any reason given, speculation is that the recent shortage of the 32nm Intel processors has affected Intel’s stock of Xeons as well. whether that is true, it would go some way to explaining the lack of an update for high-end workstations like Apple’s Mac Pro. In case you haven’t been following it, the Mac Pro hasn’t been updated since March last year, which is quite some date for a cutting edge computer to be left out. Are you looking forward to getting a new workstation powered by Intel’s Xeon 5600 chip?

According to it, both devices will support Verizon’s EVDO Rev. A network, and will be offered under a Basic or Premium plan. The Basic plan will offer unlimited text messaging and a contact backup feature. Premium will offer more minutes, expanded notes plan and full access to the Kin Studio. The search engine giant has updated Google Maps for mobile to offer voice search for your Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 smartphones. So instead of having to fiddle with your keypad, you can just hit a button and state your destination to the phone. You’ll even be able to ask it for a specific address, retail outlet, or even a type of place such as a coffee shop. Not too poor, eh?

While Nintendo hasn’t furnished us with the full details of the upcoming 3D-toting Nintendo 3DS yet, the folks by at Yanko Design have come up with their own interpretation of a 3D-capable Nintendo DS, and it looks awesome. The concept of it having both displays linked together is certainly a good one, as when you flip the console open 180 degrees flat, you’ll have a flat surface with a giant screen. It’s able to project 3D images on the display, and you can interact with said items, something like what you saw in the Iron Man movie. whether Nintendo did come up with anything close to that, you can be certain that it has a winner on its hands.

No matter how you phrase it, you’ve really got to appreciate the irony of the whole situation. that is probably one of the downsides of having an open OS, as the Motorola Backflip offered by AT&T will have Yahoo Search plastered all by the phone. The home screen widget has been replaced by a Yahoo version, and nearly any search you perform via the phone will be using Yahoo to churn out the results, and considering that Google is the one who came up with the Android OS that powers that phone, it certainly does seem a little weird. Of course, AT&T hasn’t done anything wrong here, particularly since the OS is open, and the carrier is free to customize it, though that certainly isn’t going to stop users from having a little laugh at the irony of the whole situation, right? Do you have any complaints about that move, or will any search engine do the trick for you?

While the T-Mobile G1 is extremely old hat by now, that hasn’t stopped those cloners from China from coming up with the SciPhone WG3 which is a clone of the G1. Specifications-wise, that is a pretty impressive handset, boasting a 3.2″ touchscreen display, Wi-Fi connectivity, dual cameras (presumably one is meant for video calls), dual SIM carriage and TV support. Needless to say, the WG3 will additionally double up as a portable media player as all decent smartphones should these days, but there is no mention of its operating system which is rather strange. It does not come with a QWERTY keyboard as with the G1 though, so those who love a physical keyboard when composing messages might want to give that a miss.

While Froyo hasn’t been released to the general public yet, info that the next version of Google’s Android after Froyo will be dubbed Gingerbread has surfaced. The update came from Brian Swetland, Android’s Kernel guru, and an excerpt from his post reads:

This week we’re finalizing our move to 2.6.32 for the Android “Froyo” release, and we’ll likely be on .33 or .34 for “Gingerbread”.

Whatever name Google decides to use for it’s Android OS versions, we certainly hope that the final product will be tasty (pun intended).

It looks like Toshiba’s Portégé lineup will be getting a new member in the scheme of the M780. While most manufacturers out there are gunning for the increasingly popular tablet design, Toshiba hasn’t given up on the convertible tablet design just yet. The M780 laptop that we dug up sports a 12.1-inch 1200 x 800 TruBright LED backlit display. Thanks to its convertible tablet design, it’ll assemble use of the touchscreen and plus offer you multi-touch support with Windows 7 gestures. Specifications of the M780 include:

Intel Core i3 or Core i5 processors

8GB of DDR3 RAM

2.5-inch hard disk or SSD

2x USB ports
