Compellent’s hardware road map has some interesting things in store for the future – we’re talking about 2.5″ hard drives which will not only be faster, but boasts larger capacities as well. It seems that a 900GB 2.5″ hard drive spinning at 10,000rpm is ready to knock on our doors in the relatively near future, while a 15K rpm 2.5″ drive with 300GB capacity is additionally on the way – should that happen, it could very well be the fastest small scheme factor disk drive available at the market. Could that prolong the shelf life of hard drives by some date?

The Media Pro HD, a full HD networked hard drive media player might be just the tonic for your living room, where it hooks up in a jiffy to any HDTV or A/V receiver to get you started nearly immediately. With a hot-swappable hard drive tray, you can easily swap amidst your collection of hard drives to play the intended movie, image or music files. Apart from that, you can plus hook up to your home network sans wires, but whether you still prefer an old school wired connection, there is always the option to do so via Ethernet. When not at home, why not program the Media Pro HD to download selected BitTorrent files, or stream music/videos when you’re working? A effective Sigma Designs SMP8635 CPU and Silicon Image SiI9134 HDMI 1.3 transmitter runs at the heart of the Media Pro HD, where the only beef we have against that $215 device would be its choice of design.

SanDisk has finally shipped its Xbox 360 USB Flash Drive for the Xbox 360 console, letting ordinary folks like you and I save games, download subject matter as well as access multimedia files without the need for a hard drive. that is pretty much a purchase for folks who want convenience right out of a box, since the SanDisk drive comes pre-formatted and shaves off precious minutes used to set it up by letting you play your favorite games right off the bat. Of course, those who want to save some cash can use existing speedy USB flash drives, but those will need to be properly set up before they can be used. You can pick up the Xbox 360 USB flash drive from SanDisk in 8GB and 16GB capacities which retail for $35 and $70, respectively. Each purchase will come with a one-month subscription to Xbox Live Gold as an added incentive.

Think your input is very urgent but can’t afford to do offsite backups? Well, ioSafe’s Squadron line of catastrophe proof hard drives aim to help you keep your hard drive safe from some of the dangers out there. First off it’s fireproof up to 1400° F for up to 15 minutes and sports a heat shield that can deflect by 98% of the radiant heat from a fire. It can plus survive being submerged under 5 feet of water for up to 24 hours. The good thing about that model is that instead of being incredibly bulky as most rugged drives are, the Squadron drive can actually be installed in a standard drive bay on your desktop PC. It’s slightly pricey at $310 for 320GB, but considering all the additional safety features you get, it’s worth the price, right? The ioSafe Squadron starts to ship on May 17th.

While most companies would be overjoyed at high demand it seems like the folks by at Spotify received too much of a good thing. The latest Spotify update, 0.4.3, which adds social functionality and the ability to play MP3s from your hard drive, was pulled from the site due to overwhelming demand. The 0.3.23 update is currently listed on the site, but that’s not what you’re looking for, right? Of course, you do have an alternative until the company decides to put it back up. whether your friend has downloaded it, you can always ask them to send it by to you, considering the update is pretty small at 4MB. Alternatively you could seek out some folks who have uploaded the update online, but do bear in mind that downloading random programs off the Net isn’t very safe, and we don’t recommend it whether you aren’t certain what you’re doing.

Official statement.
