Motorola somehow leaked out its i897 Amphora (seen on the right) and WX415 Heartland clamshell handsets, where the former is an iDEN model, featuring a Ferrari logo located right under the internal display which obviously suggests that it is another Ferrari-Motorola tie-up. It seems that Sprint will be the most likely candidate to offer the phone in the US, although there is no release moment attached to it just yet. As for the Motorola WX415 Heartland, that is a CDMA handset that will compose its way towards North and South America, featuring an external display and external music controls.

Intel has announced its new platform includes an Intel Atom Processor (Z6xx Series), the Controller Hub MP20 and a committed Mixed Signal IC (MSIC). Intel has been able to reduce idle mode potential consumption by up to 50X, which is critical considering handsets and tablets tend to be always on, often in idle mode. According to Intel, the new platform can additionally play audio for 2 days straight, but play video only for 4-5 hours (on a 1500mAh battery, and compared to the “Menlow” generation of Atom). Here’s an example of what a real Intel-powered phone looks like.

We can’t wait to see what devices will come out in the next few quarters. As for the Operating system, Intel will promote Meego, which was freshly announced at Mobile World Congress in February. Of course, Windows is always an option.

Despite all the good news, Intel still has some ways to go before displacing ARM-based chips from NVIDIA, Broadcom or Marvell, but Intel has been driving its products in ARM’s turf, much faster than ARM can go into Intel’s territory.

Verizon Wireless will be offering a couple of new handsets from LG that coming May, with the LG Fathom and LG Aloha being mentioned. The former will run on the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system and feature a touchscreen as well as a keyboard to give you the best of both worlds, while the LG Aloha looks set to be the more favored model considering the rising popularity of Android and the decline of Windows Mobile. We’re looking at Android 2.1 on the Aloha alongside a speedy 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera that does 720p video capture as well. No notion in pricing, but it would be nice to see how Verizon spaces the launch periods.

It looks as though Verizon and Vodafone are not the only carriers to offer exclusive deals for Kin 1 and Kin 2, as a hacked list of provisioning files do point towards AT&T, T-Mobile, China Mobile and a host of European networks as well sometime down the road. For those who are not in the know, the Kin handsets are not meant to be pitted against Android smartphones and the iPhone, so do not get your hopes up too high only to be dashed beforehand.

When the Sagem Puma phone was first revealed to the world with its solar panel being part of its feature, the world was pretty impressed, since it is one of the few handsets to boast such a feature. Well, the Puma phone has finally made its way to the FCC, which could possibly indicate an American release pretty soon. FCC experiment reports have pointed to support for GSM bands 850, 900, 1800 and 1900, as well as WCDMA bands I and VIII – not good news since it would mean there won’t be any 3G coverage in that part of the world.

Strangely suitable, Sirius XM seem to indicate that that app will be available only for the Droid and Nexus One, but we do hope they will extend its availability to other handsets as well.

LG GD550 and Philips Xenium X712 are a couple of upcoming handsets that has just been spotted recently, where the former comes in a slider scheme factor complete with a 5-megapixel camera and quad-band GSM connectivity. Some folks might think of it as resembling the LG Pure, and they couldn’t be too far off the mark. As for the Philips Xenium X712, that model sports a 5-megapixel camera as well, a dual SIM carriage slot and comes in a clamshell scheme factor. We do wonder whether the Xenium X712 will have a distant battery life to retain Philip’s signature feature in their handsets. No word on pricing or availability on either as at press date.

Motorola has announced not just one or two, but six new phones, though they all seem to be budget-centric phones. Still, whether you’re on a tight budget and shopping for a new phone, they might pique your interest.

The first two are the MOTO WX161 and the W181. Both are classic candybar phones with 1.3-inch and 1.5-inch displays respectively. Not many details were supplied, aside from the availability of a LED torch feature and FM radio.

The MOTO WX260 and WX265 offer the same technical specifications, but the former is a candybar, while the latter sports a clamshell structure factor. They offer Bluetooth 2.0, WAP browser, FM radio, audio player, microSD card expansion up to 2GB.

Finally, the MOTO WX290 and WX295 offer 1.8-inch displays, built-in camera, MMS features, LED torch, Bluetooth 2.0, WAP 2.0 browser and FM radio.

Pricing isn’t available at the moment, but you can bet that they won’t break the bank.

Seems that the Nokia N86 which rolled out in Europe last summer is taking after the UK-released N900 and N97, where users have started to phone in with problems concerning the microUSB port. Apparently, a hign number of faulty Nokia N86 handsets have already been returned to dealers for further repair. Most of the complaints are about the N86′s charging problem, as the microUSB socket seems to get easily pushed inside the device whenever a charging cable is connected. Of course, not all N86s suffer from that problem, but it has a higher than normal number to warrant a deeper look into the situation.
