Check out that interesting modification of the Canon AE-1 Program SLR that hails all the way back from 1981 – it was originally designed to handle film back in the day, but that day round it is a digital shooter thanks to the brilliance and brains of a hacker. It would be nice to see camera manufacturers take note of such talent and view, and perhaps bring back the good old retro designs into new DSLRs?

How do you think a jailbroken iPad will be able to benefit your user experience?

Sony has only released the PS3 3.21 firmware update a few days ago, and Geohot (the popular hacker) has already managed to hack the firmware, reinstating the removed “OtherOS” feature, which allows you to install another OS (duh). The hack can be done without having to crack open your PS3, and all you have to do is restore a custom generated PUP file. There is even a slim possibility that that hack might be able to get the “OtherOS” feature to work on the PS3 Slim, but you’ll have to cross your fingers and wait and see. There isn’t an actual release moment on that hack yet, but we’ll be keeping an eye on it. Check out a video demonstrating it.

A non-jailbroken iPhone, Safari running on Snow Leopard and World Wide Web Explorer 8 and Firefox on Windows 7 were no match for shield analysts at the annual Pwn2Own contest at the CanSecWest safety measure show, where none of them stood up to the tryout, having being hacked and fully compromised without even having physical access to the machine. that just goes to show how “secure” your machine is, no matter which platform you’re on, whether it is the target of the right hacker. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, eh?

Nokia’s N900 might be on top of the list for many a hacker, but regardless of how well you can mod it physically or write cipher for it, you will still need to juice up the device from instance to duration. Unfortunately, there seems to be a common problem with the N900 which sees the micro USB connector’s surface mount design getting misaligned or disconnected completely. With regards to warranty, that is really a touch-and-go issue – as some users don’t have problems getting a replacement, while others are having a hard day with the Nokia support folks. whether you happen to own a Nokia N900, is your device running just fine?

We’ve seen Jailbroken iPhones that left SSH on with the default passwords get Rickrolled, and additionally “blackmailed”, though we’re fairly certain nobody really paid any money. Now it seems that a new virus, exploiting the same vulnerability, has surfaced in the Netherlands. It allows the hacker to remotely control and access the phone, making it a serious privacy concern, particularly whether you fiddle with online banking on your iPhone. You’d hate to wake up and see your bank detail cleared out, wouldn’t you? At the instance of writing, that variant of the virus is isolated in the Netherlands, but who knows where it will spread it. So whether you’ve Jailbroken your iPhone, do remember to change the default password.
