Despite Intel’s Atom processor enjoying much of the success in the netbook market, let’s not forget that AMD is plus still in the game, and word is going around the Acer is gearing up to launch a new 10.1-inch netbook that uses AMD’s 1.2GHz V105 individual core processor. It’s still not official yet, but the AMD-powered Aspire One 521 will reportedly be using an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225 graphics chip, paired with the AMD M880G chipset, hinting at the possibility of that netbook being able to handle HD video playback. The netbook should plus offer optional Bluetooth 3 support, a compact charger and a battery that should be able to last up to 7-hours (depending on usage, of course). There isn’t any word on when the Acer Aspire One 521 will be launched, or at what price point, but we’ll keep an eye on that.

AMD has lifted the curtains on its ATI Radeon E4690 Mobile PCI Express module which will target graphics-intensive embedded systems. Boasting compliance to the industry-standard MXM 3.0 specification for graphics subsystems, you will find that the Radeon E4690 features reduced ability consumption, improved cooling capability and a lower z-height which makes the tasks of designers to create smaller, more efficient embedded systems a whole lot easier. The ATI Radeon E4690 MXM will come with thrice the 3D graphics performance of older solutions, featuring low CPU utilization and brilliant picture quality. It will come with 512MB GDDR3 RAM and is proud to be the sole graphics chip that supports Microsoft DirectX 10.1 and AMD’s Unified Video Decoder 2 (UVD 2). Do bear in mind that gamers are not the target market for that. Nice to see all-in-one machines getting more processing muscle, as that might mean they move up a notch in terms of useability as gamers could look to those as a casual gaming machine whether they’re not too interested in having the best frame rates in the highest video quality possible each instance they booth up their favorite gaming title.

Well, now word is going around that the laptop will be hitting Europe in late March, which isn’t all that far away. Despite it sporting a Core i7-620M processor, it still is careful to keep an eye on battery life, as it allows you to switch within an Nvidia GeForce GT300M, and an Intel HD graphics chip, depending on your usage. You could additionally set it to automatically switch on the fly too, though there isn’t mention of how much battery life that would save. instance to save up your pennies so you can buy that laptop when it’s launched?

Those of you who have been eagerly awaiting Intel’s Larrabee discrete graphics chip will be disappointed. In the latest news, Intel has admitted that the chip is behind schedule and will only seem as a “software developer platform” next year – whether ever, and that could mean that consumers won’t see it until the year after, in our opinion. There is still no word on performance (or expected performance) and our best bet is that it is just really hard to compete with discrete GPUs. that is speculated to be the main reason for a delay that could turn into a complete cancellation.
