You might have noticed the new look on Google’s search page today and it looks like the search engine giant has additionally incorporated those new features into its mobile search page as well. So when you hit Google’s site using your iPhone or Android-powered device, you’ll be offered a button on the left of the results page to see a new search options menu. From the menu, you’ll be able to refine your search, such as looking for recent results by using the “Past week” option. As you filter your search results, you’ll notice the previous results slide off the screen to the right, so whether you want to see them again, all you have to do is pan to the right. Pretty useful feature, particularly whether you’re looking for some data while you’re on the road.

Touchscreen displays are fairly common nowadays, but how often do you see a notebook with a touchscreen display and isn’t a convertible tablet? With the announcement of its latest Pavilion dv6 the computing giant now has a 15.6-inch notebook that sports a touchscreen HD display. The main focus of that notebook seems to be multimedia and offers up to 1TB of storage, VGA, eSATA, HDMI and USB ports along with the option for Intel or AMD processors. Prices will start from $530 for the AMD model and $650 for the Intel model, though the question still remains whether you should get a tablet device whether getting a touchscreen device is your main goal.

The online retailing giant has just announced the 2.5 firmware update for its Kindle and Kindle DX eBook readers. The update is currently being rolled out to a limited group of Kindle users, but the full release should be going live come the end of May. Notable improvements in that new firmware include the ability to organize books and documents into collections, pan and zoom within PDF files, Kindle password protection, and the ability to share book passages with your friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Cloud services are really useful, but there is always the niggling nag that there might be an outage at the company that is hosting all your knowledge. Google has been through outages before, notably with its Gmail service, and now reports are in that a significant number of users seem to be unable to access their Google Calendar, being presented with a “server error” page instead of the schedule of their Hawaiian holiday. Apparently the problem has been resolved, but the search engine giant hasn’t released any info explaining the outage. Hopefully such outages don’t happen too often as more and more folks are becoming connected to cloud services nowadays.

Google is really focusing on the mobile market nowadays and the search engine giant has just announced that it has improved its image search for the iPhone and Android devices. The redesign of Google Image Search for mobile is currently available for iPhone 3.0+ and Android 2.1 devices and focuses on making it easy for users to see as many image thumbnails as possible. The thumbnails have been put into squares to maximize the number of images shown at one go as well as being optimized for speed so that the images seem quickly when you browse. Google has plus introduced a new image viewing page to construct things easier for you too. Check out the video of it in action after the jump.

The WeFound F630 eBook reader from China looks a lot like a undoubtful eBook reader from an online retailing giant, but that’s quite common for many of the products coming from China. that eBook reader has a built-in China Mobile 3G (TD-SCDMA) wireless module, offering users unlimited EDGE and 3G connection via China Mobile’s SIM Card for the first three years of purchase, after which you’ll need to top up your credit as you would a pay-as-you-go phone. The $539 eBook reader offers an 800 x 600 resolution 6-inch E-ink display, weighing in at just 200 grams. It’s touted to have 14-days standby moment, which doesn’t sound too poor.

The search engine giant has just snapped up LabPixies, the company that Google works with to create many of the widgets on its personalized portal, iGoogle. While the exact sum of the acquisition wasn’t mentioned, word is going around that the company was snatched up for $15m-$25m. So which company do you think Google has set its sights on next?

It was previously speculated that Google had dropped the Nexus One from Verizon’s lineup and now the search engine giant has confirmed that. As expected, the lack of the Nexus One on Verizon Wireless is due to the release of the Droid Incredible, which is considered the equivalent to the Nexus One and in some ways better. According to a statement from Google, that reflects the amazing innovation in the Android platform. Another benefit that the Droid Incredible has by the Nexus One is that it is sold in retail stores, along with a contract pricing of $200, instead of having to buy the Nexus One online only. It remains to be seen whether Google’s online-only marketing strategy will be considered a failure, as it doesn’t seem to have helped sales of the Nexus One very much, whether at all.
