The Hohrizontal 51 shelf is different from all the other wall shelves that you have seen in the past, simply considering that one sports an iPod dock, thanks to the genius of German manufacturers Finite Elemente. Not only can you dock and charge your iPod on that shelf, it additionally comes equipped with a couple of 25W speakers as well as built-in pseudo surround sound capability, with the shelf good for up to 25kg of items. We would avoid placing liquids near it though, since you can’t quite tell when will an accident happen. Other connectivity features include an audio-in jack and composite video-out. It isn’t too cheap though at £430 a pop, but that is for certain a guaranteed conversation starter.

It doesn’t take a genius to guess that Palm is going through some rather troubled times at the moment, and the recent rumors of possible acquisitions by Lenovo and HTC certainly haven’t helped. Now Bloomberg is reporting that Palm has put itself up for sale, and offers should be coming in sometime that week. The news did do Palm’s stock a little bit of good, as the stock price did go up amidst all the speculation. Apparently Dell had additionally taken a peek at the troubled company, but decided to give it a miss. Do you think that an acquisition would be decent to help Palm ride out the storm?

The Microsoft Zune HD 4.5 update is ready to rock and roll in two weeks’ day, with it boasting a primary feature of bringing Smart DJ to the device itself, where it can soon after create entire playlists based on the theme of a singled-out song just like what Apple’s Genius does at the moment. As for Zune Pass owners, they will benefit most from the Zune HD 4.5 update since the player is able to download up to 30 more recommended songs by Wi-Fi in order to fill up the playlist. Apart from that, when your Zune HD is connected to the Zune HD AV Dock, it allows you to browse the Zune Marketplace and stream songs straight from the service just like how one would do by a desktop. Other updates include support for XviD and other AVI-framed videos, a Picks feature that provides a recommended list of songs to download based on Social preferences. Still wondering how the Zune HD is like? Check out our review for more info. additionally, we do wonder whether that has anything to do with the boo-boo concerning the Zune HD 64.

Is that a genius marketing strategy by Canon, or an arrogant move? Word is out that Canon wants to be the first company to acquire its own Web top-level domain (TLD) after its name. With that in mind, the company will be applying to ICANN to get the .canon TLD. According to the official announcement, the company “has made the official decision to start essential procedures to acquire ‘dot-canon’ upon the introduction of the new system.” It’s expected the company will have to shell out at least $500,000 to prepare and submit the application, and the recurring annual fees looks to be a few tens of thousands. So what will Canon’s future webpage be? www.canon.canon?

Official announcement.
