Major manufacturers should start implementing USB 3.0 technology into all shipping gadgets they can. That is the way for a new technology to become widely available in no instance. And what technology. SuperSpeed USB, apart from multiplying transfer speeds by 10, allows to stream video of any quality and resolution, at which I look with healthy enthusiasm. DisplayLink is working on that. So, the technology itself, ASUS has recently announced that they will install their freshly designed USB 3.0 enabled PCIe x4 bridge chip into a (very) wide range of its motherboards. In fact, N Series laptops and latest Eee PC netbooks will now have USB 3.0 chips, as well as machines based on a good dozen other of ASUS motherboards. What’s more, you can buy above mentioned PCIe x4 bridge chip for earlier-released units.

When you’re always on the road, you’ll certainly want to reduce the amount of chargers that you bring along with you, and Targus is aiming to help you solve that issue with the introduction of its Premium Laptop Charger. It’s sleek and good looking, but the main reason you’d get it is considering it is able to charge two gadgets at the same moment. It’s able to rotate 180 degrees vertically so as not to block the other charging outlets and comes with 9 laptop tips, a miniUSB tip and an iPhone tip. It’s slightly pricey at $139.99, but you have to confess that it’s rather convenient.

The University of Florida with some funding from DARPA have managed to uncover a new film-thin material which will be able to introduce cheap and lightweight night vision to virtually anything and everything, ranging from gadgets to digital cameras and even car windshields – of course, night vision on a car windshield isn’t such a good concept unless you’re on a one-way street. Using similar technology in OLED displays, that new material relies on seven layers that are excited by infrared light, generating electricity charges that are amplified by the next layer, resulting in total darkness being transformed into a clear view. The prototype can only cover one square cm at point of publishing, but it should be able to be scaled up in due instance.

When it comes to buying gadgets, aside from the features of it, the most common question would be how much it costs. With that in mind, it looks like the price of adopting a device powered by Google’s Chrome OS won’t be too expensive, as Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, has mentioned during the Atmosphere Cloud Computing Forum that the devices are estimated to cost amidst $300-$400. The costs will mostly be associated with the hardware as the operating system (OS) itself is free. The expensive part of the software will be developing the web apps, which is something that Google is obviously good at. It will be very interesting to see how the market will be affected by devices powered by Google’s Chrome OS, Apple’s iPad and Windows-powered netbooks. We’re looking forward to some healthy competition. You can check out the video in the full post. It’s about 40 minutes faraway, so grab a cup of coffee and sit back.
