Samsung Beat R1 now priced
March 9, 2010
Samsung has priced their Beat R1 portable media player as it comes in two capacities - 8GB and 16GB, where they are going for $149.99 and $179.99, respectively. Measuring a mere 8.9mm thin while tipping the scales at 50 grams, the R1 is smaller than a credit card while cramming in a 2.6? LCD touchscreen display (now how about that!), an integrated FM radio and recorder, Bluetooth connectivity as well as ample juice to last for up to 50 hours for audio playback or 4 hours for video. Other features include DivX support for video files, as well as Samsung’s brilliant Digital Natural Sound Engine (DNSe) 3.0 sound enhancement technology. You can pick up the R1 in pink, black and silver colors.

LG's latest touchscreen handset, the Cookie Fresh GS290 has just been announced officially, where it will continue from where the highly successful Cookie left off with more than 12 million units sold. The Cookie Fresh is somewhat similar to the Cookie Plus, coming with a 3" WQVGA touchscreen display, a cartoonish user interface, social networking integration to keep up with the times, an integrated FM radio, a 2-megapixel camera and a 3.5mm headset jack. There won't be any 3G connectivity with that puppy. Those who are interested can look out for the Cookie Fresh in Europe later that month for a yet unknown price.

AAA Battery Powered Olive FrvrOn V-G2300
March 6, 2010

We’ve seen digital cameras use normal AA batteries before, but a cell phone that can be powered by an AAA battery? Now that’s a little less common. Well, that’s precisely what the Olive Telecommunication company by in India is offering – India’s first dual-powered mobile phone that supports AAA batteries. Despite the phone, the FrvrOn V-G2300, being a low-end handset, the fact that it supports AAA batteries as a potential source would prepare that phone an ideal companion whether you’re going camping or somewhere where there isn’t any electricity available. There aren’t any cool features to brag about with phone that sports a 1.5–inch 128 x 128 pixel CSTN display, FM radio, speakerphone and some preloaded games. The Phone FrvrOn V-G2300 is currently going for 1699 INR (about $37) which certainly is interesting, particularly whether you plan to travel to India.

Alcatel OT-808 looks more like a notebook
February 24, 2010

The Alcatel OT-808 is one cellphone which comes with average specifications, but what makes it stand out from the rest would be its resemblance to that of a netbook. that clamshell mold factor is equipped with a full QWERTY keypad not to mention a 2.4" QVGA internal display when you open it up. Apart from that, it additionally has a 1.1" external monochrome OLED display at 128 x 36 pixels. You won't leave your social networking habits with that since it sports social networking integration, e-mail, IM support and an Opera Mini browser. Other specifications include Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, an integrated FM radio, a 2-megapixel camera and dual-band GSM connectivity. No view on when it will be available, but expect it to be priced well below the $125 mark.
