Sun ability Technology mini-notebook
March 4, 2010

Just when you thought that netbooks and Mobile Net Devices (MIDs) were the smallest category mobile computing machines out there, along comes Sun ability Technology with their, well, device which falls under no man's land. After all, it comes with a 4.8" touchscreen display at 800 x 480 resolution, a QWERTY keyboard, 512MB RAM, flash memory, Wi-Fi connectivity and a battery life which is good for up to 2 hours. Tipping the scales at 1.8 pounds, the QWERTY keyboard looks rather redundant since it isn't large decent for comfortable touch typing, but is more suited for a pair of thumbs. What is that, a thigh book?

Haleron iLet Mini
February 5, 2010

Haleron has just introduced its iLet Mini which jumps aboard the touchscreen tablet bandwagon, where you get a 7" touchscreen display alongside a 300MHz ARM-based processor, 128MB RAM and a mere 2GB of flash memory. That's not saying much, don't you think, although one certainly cannot argue with the $149 price point that clearly places that under the radar of impulse buyers. The 7" touchscreen display has a resolution count of 800 x 480, where you can choose within Windows CE 6.0 or Linux as the operating system of choice. Strange next, the promotional image shows that Windows XP is the OS of choice instead. According to Haleron, the tablet can run anywhere from 4 to 6 hours using a 2,200mAh battery. Other features include 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and optional Bluetooth connectivity alongside an SDHC memory card slot. Any takers?

Intel introduces ultra-dense memory manufacturing process
February 2, 2010

Intel has just announced that the company will start making Flash storage using a very advanced 25-nanometer manufacturing technology. 25 nanometer describes how small the basic chip building blocks are, and that is mind-blowing. Overall, that means that Flash memory commonly used in solid-state drives (SSD) will get smaller (surface area), cheaper and more dependable to produce. Prices will plus drop considering the cost is somewhat proportional to the surface area. Intel expect to be able to build 8 Gigabytes devices in a separate "NAND (a memory technology) device". Expect price per GB to be cut in half in the next 12 months.

HTC Trophy – yet another Windows Mobile smartphone?
February 1, 2010

You can't really escape the shadow of having good software, as evident by a slew of solid smartphones in recent memory which are "wasted" on the Windows Mobile operating system while both Android and the iPhone OS continue their march to world domination. The HTC Trophy falls under such a category, where it comes with sleek specifications such as a 3" VGA capacitive touchscreen display, a full QWERTY keyboard, a Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz processor, 512 MB of flash memory, 256 MB RAM, GPS/AGPS capability, Wi-Fi b/g and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity, dualband (900/2100) WCDMA/HSPA, quadband GSM/EDGE, a Motion G-sensor and Business Card Scanner. Sounds too comprehensive and good to be true, but the major drawback for most would be having it run on Windows Mobile 6.5. soon after again, a closer look at the HTC Trophy could produce you think that it is nothing but a fan render, making it the 'trophy' that HTC has been looking for to topple the iPhone from its lofty perch.
