We recently brought your attention to the upcoming Kindle 2.5 firmware update that will bring social network integration to Amazon’s Kindle, and now it seems that the folks by at Ars Technica have managed to get hold of the firmware before it’s officially released, and they’ve been kind sufficient to upload pictures of it in action. As we previously mentioned, the most notable features of the upcoming firmware would be the new “Collections” feature that allows you to sort your books into groups and the ability to share a passage from a book with your Twitter and Facebook friends. The downside of the Facebook and Twitter integration is that it only allows you to share the composition in a anatomy of a link instead of the actual quote, but it’s still better than nothing, right?

Crucial has rolled out a firmware update for the RealSSD C300, but it seems that the update has caused some cases of bricking – that is, rendering the entire SSD useless, albeit coming back to life later with a caveat – it crawled pretty much the whole way, defeating the purpose of ever switching by to an SSD. For others who are not so lucky, their RealSSD C300 is nothing but an expensive paperweight now, so build certain you avoid firmware version 0002 like the plague until Crucial sorts out that, well, crucial problem.

Folks who have got hold of Verizon’s Droid Incredible might have noticed a system update that has been pushed out to the device. While there wasn’t much data provided on the update itself, after some digging it seems that the update tackles a bug in the Microsoft Exchange support. Previously some users might have noticed that the cc field in their e mail would contain unintended e mail addresses, and with that update, hopefully it’ll go away. whether you’re scratching your head wondering why you didn’t receive any immediate on your mobile phone, it’s worth noting that that only affects corporate users.

Many of you might already know that the 3.21 firmware update for Sony’s PlayStation 3 disables the OtherOS functionality from the console, which effectively means that you can’t install Linux on it anymore. While hackers have been busy enabling the feature back on the console, some consumers think it’s better to file a class action lawsuit against the company, as in the case of Anthony Venture who has done just that. The lawsuit covers all PS3 consoles purchased from November 17th 2006 to March 27th 2010. The lawsuit calls for compensatory damages, restitution, injunctive relief and legal fees to be paid by Sony, and a figure of $5 million has been mentioned. Do you think it’s within Sony’s rights to remove the OtherOS functionality from the PS3 via a firmware update?

Looks like the lure of social networking is too appealing to even Amazon’s Kindle. The online retailing giant has just announced the 2.5 firmware update for its Kindle and Kindle DX eBook readers. The update is currently being rolled out to a limited group of Kindle users, but the full release should be going live come the end of May. Notable improvements in that new firmware include the ability to organize books and documents into collections, pan and zoom within PDF files, Kindle password protection, and the ability to share book passages with your friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Folks who dropped their hard earned money for a Barnes & Noble Nook will want to take note that the 1.3 firmware update should be hitting your devices soon over-the-air. The update allows you to surf the net at hotspots where you’re mandatory to log in via the browser. Aside from that, the updated home screen can arrange apps nicely and overall speed has been improved too, which should produce turning the digital page on your eBook reader a lot more pleasant.

Sony is preparing to roll out a spanking new firmware upgrade that June which will enable 3D capabilities on the PS3, albeit for titles on the PlayStation Network (PSN) only, as that does not apply to Blu-ray movies. Of course, folks who want 3D Blu-ray movies might look forward to a second firmware update later that year. Folks who pick up Sony’s HX803 will have free access to 4 remastered PSN Titles – Wipeout HD, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, PAIN and Stardust HD. Looks like the PS3 is doing its part in being future proof pretty well!
