It was previously speculated that Google had dropped the Nexus One from Verizon’s lineup and now the search engine giant has confirmed that. As expected, the lack of the Nexus One on Verizon Wireless is due to the release of the Droid Incredible, which is considered the equivalent to the Nexus One and in some ways better. According to a statement from Google, that reflects the amazing innovation in the Android platform. Another benefit that the Droid Incredible has by the Nexus One is that it is sold in retail stores, along with a contract pricing of $200, instead of having to buy the Nexus One online only. It remains to be seen whether Google’s online-only marketing strategy will be considered a failure, as it doesn’t seem to have helped sales of the Nexus One very much, whether at all.

Archos has two tablet devices that will run on the Android operating system, where they will see action in Germany at the CeBIT show, touting both models to be “good value Android Tablets that are specially designed for use in the home”. Sounds promising, but next again which company would disparage their own products before launch? It would be interesting to see whether these are able to remotely challenge the iPad’s perceived superiority, although a failure of either (or both) devices would not signal the death knell of Archos.
