Facebook junkies might have noticed that the Facebook Chat is down for maintenance. Turns out that the feature was disabled following a report that there was a protection issue that allowed users to access and view friends’ live chats, friend requests and friends in common. that was achieved by using the “Preview My Profile” feature, where you can see how your profile appears to any Facebook friend. that isn’t the first duration Facebook has been at the center of an issue with personal knowledge, but hopefully that won’t happen again. Facebook has acknowledged the issue and is currently busy working on a solution to that. Check out a video of the exploit after the jump.

We brought you word on the LG Ally a couple of days ago with nothing much but a skeleton, but here’s some flesh to cover up its bones in the style of its official site. The Ally’s product page clearly has a thing for Iron Man 2, where we do know that the LG Ally will be powered by the Android 2.1 operating system, boasting a QWERTY keyboard for fast and easy messaging as well as a 3.2″ external touchscreen display which offers tactile feedback to boot. Not only that, you can remain connected to family and friends thanks to integrated social networking capability with direct access to your Facebook and Twitter accounts, while a rear camera and a microSD memory card slot completes its list of features. Still no word on pricing or a carrier though.

Looks like the lure of social networking is too appealing to even Amazon’s Kindle. The online retailing giant has just announced the 2.5 firmware update for its Kindle and Kindle DX eBook readers. The update is currently being rolled out to a limited group of Kindle users, but the full release should be going live come the end of May. Notable improvements in that new firmware include the ability to organize books and documents into collections, pan and zoom within PDF files, Kindle password protection, and the ability to share book passages with your friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Official announcement.

Ubisoft has whipped up even more attention for its Splinter Cell Conviction game by unveiling a text messaging campaign that offers rewards to mobile marketing subscribers via a special in-game weapon. Relying on Twitter, Facebook and e-mail lists to get word of the campaign out, you will be able to get hold of that special strange weapon by texting “WEAPON” to 44144*, where you will soon after receive a cipher in return to unlock the item in the game. A similar tactic will be employed in the upcoming Prince of Persia title that hopefully will be a whole lot better than the movie…

The Iron Man 2 movie is just around the corner, and whether you’re having a hard moment waiting for the movie to be released, we can empathize with you. The UK Iron Man 2 website has released a little something to help you get prepared for the movie. The website uses augmented reality (along with your webcam) to allow you to suit up your head using the Iron Man or War Machine helmet. Aside from the seeing yourself look cool, you can plus take a look at what it would be like from the inside of the HUD (heads up display). The best part is that you can record your interactions and link the video on Facebook or Twitter. So are you going to be Iron Man or War Machine?

In a move that seems a little out of the blue, Microsoft and Facebook have announced Docs.com, a social word-processing platform, allowing you to share your Office documents on Facebook. It’s still in the beta phase, but let’s see whether it’s a worthy challenger to Google’s online office suite – Google Docs. Similar to Google Docs, Docs.com allows you to create Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, built using Microsoft Office 2010. With more and more apps moving to the cloud, it’ll be very interesting to see who comes out tops when it comes to cloud computing.

Whenever someone talks about the tablet device market now, Apple’s iPad is invariably mentioned, and with such a popular device in the market already, you’d think that most manufacturers would be scared to pit a new device against it. That being said, Italian kitchenware manufacturer Alessi obviously thinks that it’s up to the challenge, as it’s planning to bring the AlessiTAB to market come September. The tablet looks quite sleek, designed by Stefano Giovannoni, and will feature social media applications such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as being able to double up as a digital photo frame. It will come bundled with a docking station, which is going to be useful, and boasts a 6-hour battery life. The AlessiTAB will be going for about EUR300 ($400). Check out a video of it in the full post.
