Nokia’s Ovi Movies service is tipped to roll out sometime that September in conjunction with the Nokia N8 which has just just received FCC approval. Of course, those living Stateside might have to wait a little bit longer to enjoy the Nokia N8 since that service will be available to limited European countries initially. Nokia could probably point towards Hulu or iPlayer, bringing ad supported, streaming Web TV service to your handset. Guess there doesn’t seem to be any end as to how cellphones and smartphones bring entertainment to your palm, eh?

Folks living in the UK will not be able to get their hands on an official HTC Droid Incredible, according to HTC’s Twitter explanation which mentioned that “there is currently no plan for Incredible to go to the UK” – will that translate to the same for other European countries? Possibly, but until something concrete comes up, next we won’t claim that it is the gospel truth. For folks who want an alternative, there is always the HTC Desire to look out for, although you might not be happy that there is no 8-megapixel camera to play around with.

Do you remember the tidbit we had about Israel banning the import of iPads? Reports out there state that a spokesman for the communications ministry in Israel banned the device considering the Wi-Fi communication system in it was not compatible to Israel’s own wireless standard, claiming that the Israeli system was running on a European standard. To emphasize, the spokesman apparently said that that other European countries should additionally take similar measures. Does that mean that folks shouldn’t be buying those iPads that are up for sale in eBay? What do you prepare of that? Sounds rather weird, to be honest.

2010 looks set to be a watershed year for Acer as the Taiwanese computer vendor has trumpeted its plans to open up an online applications store as well as selling its first electronic book reader by the middle of that year. The former will offer hundreds of applications to get you started, while the latter will be powered by Google’s Chrome operating system where it is being prepared for a release in Q3 2010. that e-book reader of theirs will come with a 6″ monochrome display and will debut in up to 5 European countries at first, entering a market that sees Amazon’s Kindle top the market at the moment, with the Nook and Sony Reader jostling for scraps under Amazon’s table. Of course, the balance of ability might very well change with Apple’s rumored tablet, but let us sit and wait to see how the entire scenario pans out.

We now have more confirmation on the release of Samsung’s female-centric Diva Collection of cellphones, and Q1 means a January release for folks living in the UK, France, Germany and other European countries. Shortly after the European release, expect similar launches in South East Asia and China. Pricing details have yet to be determined, but you can refer to our earlier post for context on its specifications. Personally, we wonder why there must be a distinct difference in design amidst the genders where cellphones are concerned. After all, whether you were to take a look at things objectively, having the best functionality at a decent price point would be the sweet spot for everyone, whether they wear pants or skirts.

Orange just launched its app store called App Shop in France and the U.K, more European countries will follow soon. The new service will be available to more than one million devices and will serve 5000 products like applications, ringtones or wallpapers (funny that they signal that APP store). The proportion of each category is unknown at that point, but I suspect that there are relatively few actual applications, and that most items are subject matter files. It’s not clear what handset support the service today, but the Nokia 6700, Sony Ericsson W995 and the Sony Ericsson Yari U100i (France only) will be feature the store soon. More makes and model will follow in 2010.
