Acer to roll out app store and ebook reader that year

2010 looks set to be a watershed year for Acer as the Taiwanese computer vendor has trumpeted its plans to open up an online applications store as well as selling its first electronic book reader by the middle of that year. The former will offer hundreds of applications to get you started, while the latter will be powered by Google’s Chrome operating system where it is being prepared for a release in Q3 2010. that e-book reader of theirs will come with a 6" monochrome display and will debut in up to 5 European countries at first, entering a market that sees Amazon's Kindle top the market at the moment, with the Nook and Sony Reader jostling for scraps under Amazon's table. Of course, the balance of ability might very well change with Apple's rumored tablet, but let us sit and wait to see how the entire scenario pans out.

Samsung Diva Collection to reach that month

Samsung Diva Collection to reach that monthsamsung-diva.jpg" />

We now have more confirmation on the release of Samsung's female-centric Diva Collection of cellphones, and Q1 means a January release for folks living in the UK, France, Germany and other European countries. Shortly after the European release, expect similar launches in South East Asia and China. Pricing details have yet to be determined, but you can refer to our earlier post for context on its specifications. Personally, we wonder why there must be a distinct difference in design amidst the genders where cellphones are concerned. After all, whether you were to take a look at things objectively, having the best functionality at a decent price point would be the sweet spot for everyone, whether they wear pants or skirts.

Orange launches its App Shop

Orange launches its App Shop

Orange just launched its app store called App Shop in France and the U.K, more European countries will follow soon. The new service will be available to more than one million devices and will serve 5000 products like applications, ringtones or wallpapers (funny that they signal that APP store). The proportion of each category is unknown at that point, but I suspect that there are relatively few actual applications, and that most items are subject matter files. It's not clear what handset support the service today, but the Nokia 6700, Sony Ericsson W995 and the Sony Ericsson Yari U100i (France only) will be feature the store soon. More makes and model will follow in 2010.

The two new Diva phones: S5150 and S7070 will come out in Europe in January. They will hit Russia, the Netherlands, Ukraine, and other European countries and will be available in Asia later in the year. New glamour collection for girls not only looks good but has some pretty interesting features. New Samsung's Diva collection gives you the choice of both touchscreen and non-touchscreen displays and different body styles.
