Intendix is touted to be the first patient-ready and commercially available brain computer interface in the world, debuting at CeBIT 2010. The Intendix system from Guger Technologies relies on a dorky-looking EEG cap which is used to measure brain activity, letting you type with nothing but thought ability. It takes around 10 minutes of training before you are able to use it with aplomb, and will definitely come in handy for those who are suffering from locked-in syndrome or other disabilities. The Intendix system retails for €9,000 a pop.

Guger Technologies from Austria is currently exhibiting a brain computer interface at CeBIT 2010, where you are able to control an avatar using nothing but pure brainpower – that’s right, it could very well be the beginning of James Cameron’s Avatar in real life! that brain computer interface (BCI) will require you to wear a pretty funny looking BCI cap requires you to wear a funny looking BCI cap which is capable of measuring electrophysiological signals like the Electroencephalogram (EEG) or Electrocorticogram (ECoG). We do wonder just how different is that from the Emotiv EPOC?

Intel wants to have chips (theirs, obviously) inside our brains in the future so that there is no need for a mouse or keyboard to take charge of our computers. Dean Pomerleau is the brains behind that vision, where he works for Intel on matters of cognitive neuroscience, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, man-machine interfaces, brain processing of semantic info, and various brain-scanning technologies including fMRI, MEG, EEG and ECoG. We don’t think something like that will ever take off – it would certainly leave the thought of Big Brother knowing our every move and thoughts.
