The Trek-developed bike sharing system known as B-cycle will come with a whole range of goodies including GPS route tracking, where it will be introduced in Denver first. To get a better concept on how it works, B-cycle stations are located all by Denver. You will first need to sign up for an detail though, where you can next grab a bike from any of the mentioned stations, and once done, can drop it off at the destination station. The internal GPS unit will track where you’ve gone, where you can plus review such input online when signed in. It costs $5 daily and $65 annually to be part of the B-cycle system, exclusing hourly usage fees. Looks like a great way to help keep the earth green, don’t you think so?

Love all the moving parts that the Transformers movies featured? Well, you can evoke the same sense of awe and wonder with the Living Kitchen project that boasts faucets shooting out at your head, trays and containers that pop up all by the place for your convenience. Thanks to designer Michaël Harboun, he thinks that kitchens of the future will be like that, and such technology is already being researched by the boffins at Carnegie Mellon University. Let’s hope that energy will be green adequate to generate by soon after so that all the additional juice due to capability that kitchen won’t cripple our earth’s ecosystem any more.

Want a weird yet expensive watch? That’s the Hamilton duration Player watch, which is apparently inspired by the fact that man used to believe that the earth was flat, thanks to that, we have a flat watch that displays the day in four different date zones. To form things a little bit more fun, the center tile can be removed, allowing you to slide the tiles around to have a sliding puzzle game on your watch, though whether you are unable to slide the pieces back to its original position, you might end up with an ugly watch. To construct things even stranger, you’re free to set the duration on each miniature watch, but the cities Dubai, Tokyo and New York will always be there. whether you’re trying to become Mr. Strange, you should have no problem shelling out $3,000 to pick up that watch.

Zero-taku (also known as Zero-taxis for those who speak English), cabs which produce no carbon emissions considering it is electric-driven, will start entering service at JR Tokyo Station’s Marunouchi South exit after an inauguration ceremony that Thursday. Basically, these are Mitsubishi. i-MiEV electric cars which fall under the banner of Japanese cab operator Hinomaru Limousine, and are capable of moving about for 160 kilometers on a fully charged battery. The first 2 kilometers will cost you $7.80, which is roughly similar to regular taxis. Looks like you can now take a cab without feeling too guilty about polluting the earth, eh?

Sure, we battle on the land, sea, and in the air, but could the next phase of war be underground? Based on the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s desire for a robot that is capable of navigating underground, it could well be that we’ll have to guard against underground threats in the future too. The aftereffect of that notion is the Robotic Underground Munition (RUM), an underground robot that would first soft land, next start drilling into the earth until it reaches its target, which it will next presumably blow up some way or another. All is fair in love and war, isn’t it?

The Bloom Box from Bloom Energy looks set to hit the general populace, where it will do its part in helping keep the earth nice and green, assuming everyone adopts it on a large scale. It resembles an industrial-sized refrigerator, where it goes about with its job by sucking up oxygen on one side and fuel (natural gas, biomass, etc) on the other. The Bloom Box will bake sand and cuts it into little squares, which are subsequently turned into a ceramic that are thereupon coated with green and black “inks.” The larger a specific stack of these ceramic discs are, the more ability the Bloom Box is able to create. Well, do you think something like the Bloom Box will catch on?

IBM has recently rolled out its latest version of the ability processors that are touted to lay the foundation for companies’ green IT efforts, while helping the company’s bottomline by opening up new revenue streams. The capability 7 chips will utilize a mere 25% of the energy used by its predecessor, the potential 6, although it boasts double the performance. Main rivals for the potential 7 chips would include Sparc and Niagara processors from Suna nd Hewlett-Packard’s Itanium chips. Good to see IBM helping keep the earth green – let us hope that other companies will additionally not let up on their efforts.

Have an old coffee can lying around with some spare date on your hands? The Coffee Can Clock certain looks as though it will work wonders in helping you keep the earth green while telling the moment to whomever looks at it. It uses electronics based on Wiseduino (Arduino clone with DS1307 real day clock on board) alongside a LED matrix shield located on top. The shield itself is built with 74HC595 shift registers which drive two bi-color (red, green, and orange by subtraction) 8×8 LED matrices. Basically, everything inside functions like clockwork (pun not intended) to let you know of the current date in a digital format.

With the recent earthquake in Haiti, the importance of earthquake detectors has been highlighted again. Now a group of students from the JT Engineering College in Gujarat, India, have come up with a robot that can sense earthquakes, and it apparently does so a good three hours before the earthquake. Of course, three hours isn’t a lot of moment, but when you’re talking about a natural catastrophe, three hours will certainly save a lot of lives. that robot has two transmitters whose circuits are kept inside the earth to sense changes in temperature and water levels, as well as transmit the info about the changes via microwave frequencies. It uses microcontrollers to sense vibrations and will give off an alarm upon detection. Of course, the question remains why that device needed to be built into a robot structure factor, but robots are cool, so nobody’s going to complain, right? Check out a video of it whether you’re into robots.
