February 11, 2010

While Google Nexus One and Motorola Droid users have been clamoring to get their hands on the multi-touch update for said phones, it seems that the HTC Hero has been hacked to allow multi-touch to work on it. The best part is that it isn’t some simple pinch and zoom deal that’s found on pictures and maps, that multi-touch hack was used to come up with an Exposé-like operate of all the widgets that you have open, allowing you to easily change your focus to that widget. Is that the brainchild of some hobbyist, or is HTC really planning to offer such a cool feature? Check out the product for yourself whether you’re interested in multi-touch.

Hook Your Motorola Droid To USB Printers In The Future?
February 10, 2010

How would you like to be able to hook up a USB printer, or USB flash drive to your Motorola Droid? That’s not possible just yet, but thanks to a couple of folks who were fiddling with the Motorola Droid, it might be possible in the future. With Android being able to offer USB Host mode, a Motorola Droid was modified (with a bit of engineering and technical magic) to be able to hook up to various USB devices. Unfortunately Android currently doesn’t offer drivers for USB peripherals, so you wouldn’t be able to get even a USB flash drive to work just yet, but it’s a start. whether that development goes well, possibly we’ll be able to plug your flash drives directly to our phones in the future, or print directly via cable from our phone to the USB printer. whether you want the nitty gritty and some pictures on that mod, check it out.

Only 80k Nexus One Phones Sold In The First Month
February 8, 2010

The Nexus One from Google might have had plenty of hype in the build up to its official announcement, but it seems that despite that, initial sales haven’t reflected that hype. According to analyst firm Flurry Inc., Google sold just 80,000 units of the device during its first month of being on sale. whether you want a comparison, The Motorola Droid sold 525,000 units and the iPhone sold 600,000 units on their first months respectively. Speculation is that that could be due to Google selling the phone online, and not offering it for sale directly through a wireless service provider. Aside from that, the lack of Nexus One advertising plus might have been a contributing factor, particularly when you take into history the number of web ads available for the Droid and iPhone. That being said, Google has come up with a rather interesting series of videos on the creation of the Nexus One, so possibly that will help.
