Mustek MER-6T ebook reader
January 26, 2010

The Mustek MER-6T ebook reader is ready to hit the market, where it comes with a 800 x 600 resolution black-and-white display, supporting a wide range of ebook formats such as PDF (Free/DRM), ePub (Free/DRM), TXT, RTF, FB2, PRC,/MOBI and HTML. The built-in 2GB memory is capable of holding up to 1,600 books, but good thing you can carry more digital tomes with you thanks to its expandable memory. No word on pricing or availability, but we do wonder whether other ebook manufacturers are quaking in their boots as Apple prepares the iSlate/iTablet - with all the hype surrounding Apple's rumored upcoming device, you would think that that is all the world can think about.

Sony to launch online portal
November 20, 2009

An online store is a big thing thanks to the iTunes' unprecedented success on a global scale, and Sony doesn't want to lose out on that potentially lucrative market whether executed rightly, having announced plans to roll out an online portal for music, movies, books and other subject matter including applications. The new Sony Online Service is supposed to assist the company in hitting Apple where it hurts - iTunes. Hopefully they won't introduce all the crap DRM and proprietary formats in the process.
