With the launch of Apple’s iPad and the dominance of Amazon’s Kindle eBook reader, you can be certain that any manufacturer aiming to break into the eBook reader market will be given a hard moment. But despite the odds, Viewsonic doesn’t seem to have made too much effort to distinguish itself from the pack with its VEB620 and VEB625 eBook readers. Both E-ink readers are able to handle ePub, RTF and plain text files, as well as PDF and HTML files. You could boast that it can playback MP3 files, but which device doesn’t do that nowadays? Both devices differ in the fact that the VEB625 offers Wi-Fi. The VE620 and VE625 are priced at £205 ($315) and £175 ($269) respectively. Can you think of any reason why you’d pick that by a Kindle?

We’ve been hearing reports of a Lenovo eBook reader for some day now, and it seems that said eBook reader will be called the Lenovo Tianji EB-605. It’s still not officially confirmed yet, but based on what we know, it’ll be a 6-inch device, and should be going for less than $300. It should be worth noting that there is an SIM card icon at the top of the display, which probably indicates that it may support 3G connectivity. Specifications of that device should include:

400MHz Samsung ARM CPU

178mm x 128.4mm x 9.9mm dimensions

Support for DF, CHM, EPUB, TXT, HTM, HTML, RTF, PDF?DJVU, MOBI, PRC formats

Hopefully we’ll be able to pick up more details on that device soon. Do you think it’ll be able to invent a dent in the Kindle’s dominance of the market?

Could Apple be offering an 8GB iPhone 3GS sometime soon? While there hasn’t been any official word on such a model, a German shopper has recently reported that when he purchased a refurbished 8GB iPhone 3G, he received the phone will and good, but the label on the back indicated an “iPhone 3GS v2.2 8GB”. The model (A1231) and part number (MB490DN/A) indicate the older model correctly, but the “iPhone 3GS” moniker appears on other places of the packaging, which certainly seems to tip that such a phone might exist. whether Apple were to release an 8GB iPhone 3GS, it will certainly help it fend off the recent challenges on its dominance by cheaper phones such as the HTC Droid Eris and Palm Pixi.

It’s obvious that Microsoft (with its Bing search engine) has been busy trying to mount a serious challenge against Google’s dominance in the search business. Unfortunately it ran into a tiny pothole on Thursday evening when the Bing.com website went down, resulting in a browser error letter when users went to the site. Microsoft has since acknowledged the issue on Twitter, and has confirmed that it’s looking into the matter. Do you recall when Google’s main site was down?

With the recent dominance of Apple’s iPhone OS and Google’s Android, Symbian certainly doesn’t want any setbacks, but it seems unlucky that a setback is what has happened. Reports are filtering that Nokia’s N97 and Sony Ericsson’s Saito have been pulled off the shelves due to quality concerns. Folks who try and buy the N97 online via Vodafone UK are redirected to the N97 mini, which is apparently more stable. The Saito on the other hand seems to shut down when users try and launch assured apps, and it seems that there isn’t a downloadable fix just yet. whether these problems are down to Symbian’s OS, it’s certainly a cause for concern. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what the official word on that is, but till next, it seems that the Saito wouldn’t be the best phone to buy just yet.
