Love all things Wikipedia, knowing that you can while your day away on it without realizing so? Well, whether you happen to have the duration as well as the technical proficiency, why not invent your own Wikipedia reader to feed your knowledge addiction? that device uses an NXP ARM Cortex M0 model LCP1114 microcontroller to get it up and running, offering a speed of 50MHz (paltry by today’s standards, but hey, whether it gets the job done we’re not complaining) alongside 32KB of program memory and 8KB SRAM.

Still hyped up by the Iron Man 2 movie? whether you want to show everybody your love for the movie, you could try building your own Arc Reactor to wear when you hit the streets. The best part about that DIY arc reactor is that it is connected to a heart rate monitor, causing the LEDs to beat to the rhythm of your heart, something different from the movies, eh? The instructions on how to build it have been posted online, so you really don’t have an excuse to not have a good Halloween costume anymore.

Fancy a little bit of DIY by the weekend? whether you’re a video game enthusiast, you might want to check out that DIY Wiimote controller that has been crammed into a Famicom controller (that’s the old school NES for those residing Stateside). It doesn’t look as slim as it should be from the side compared to from the top, but at least it is a pretty good job for a non-professional!

Most ladies have a healthy collection of tote bags, but how many of theirs are able to tell you just how heavy it is at the moment? With the DIY Weight Sensing Tote Bag, your technical know how will be able to take you a faraway way when it comes to impressing your fellow girlfriends. While it isn’t the most accurate device in the world, it does suitable to give a rough reading on just how heavy it is, letting you know just how much your shoulder can take during the next shopping trip. that is made possible thanks to a force sensitive resistor located in the shoulder strap as it measures how hard the strap is pressing on the shoulder. All the pressure will soon after control the LEDs pulsating speed as well as the number of LEDs to be lit up, indicating preset weight values. You won’t see that hit store shelves anytime soon, that’s for certain!

Can’t afford one of those super expensive immersive gaming experiences? What you can do is try and emulate what Gavan Woolery did to come up with his virtual reality setup, which basically places his monitor inches away from his eyes. It’s definitely worth noting that that probably isn’t very healthy for your eyes and neck, but whether you’re committed, we can’t stop you, right? The display pumps out 1080p videos at 120Hz, and he’s planning to pair up the motion sensing (video in full post) with a NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit to increase the immersive feel. Now imagine playing World of Warcraft on this…

Getting hit by a golf ball is going to hurt, but getting hit by golf balls by and by again is certainly going to have you screaming for your mommy. Some folks have taken the instance to come up with a fully automated golf ball launcher. With a compartment to store the golf balls, it will load the balls into the firing chamber, and fire it automatically. Of course, the saving grace is that it’s not very portable, so you don’t have to anguish about your neighbor’s kid building one of these. Check out a video of it after the jump.

Adrian Crenshaw has come up with a new programmable USB device that will identify itself as a USB keyboard, where it can be programmed to do your bidding. It is based on a Teensy board that will feature an ATmega32 chipset which retails for a mere $18. Apart from that, he plus threw in a set of DIP switches for easy in-field changes to the firmware. A built-in light sensor can be used to activate a command the moment a victim shuts off the lights in the office and left for the day. Anyone wants to give that project a go with their spare instance?

Can’t decide what you can do with (or to) your iPad to assemble it stand out from the rest of the pack? You can always try and get some inspiration from the guy who did some nice DIY to fit the iPad into his vehicle. From the looks (or sound) of it, the iPad has plus been hooked up to the vehicle’s speakers, which would prepare sense, since your vehicle’s speakers are probably larger than the iPad’s tiny speakers. Considering that it’s going into a vehicle, possibly they should have waited until the 3G version comes out, as it’ll come bundled with A-GPS, making Google Maps much more useful. Check out the whole process, including the results, in the video that we have in the full post.

The days where turning on the lights in your home in rooms where you want to venture to at night are by with the introduction of motion sensors that will do the task automatically for you, making it look as though it is magic. Well, Edo decided to come up with a DIY version for his stairwell, making good use of energy efficient LEDs to keep his stairwell lighted with each step. At least it might be cheaper than having it professionally installed, but you do need some bit of technical know-how and a healthy love for DIY to get that up and running.
