Great faraway Brother Gives The P88 An OS X Makeover
March 10, 2010

You might remember the Great lengthy Brother for its rather interesting name, or the fact that it tried to sue Apple by the iPad’s design. Now it seems that the relationship amidst the two companies aren’t going to get any better as the Chinese manufacturer has given its P88, the device in the center of the storm, a UI makeover. A quick glance in the P88’s direction will give you the impression that it’s running OS X, though in reality it’s still powered by Microsoft’s Windows 7, albeit skinned very well to look like OS X. It’ll be interesting to see whether that affects Great enlarged Brother’s legal case against Apple’s iPad.

Ducati working on frameless superbikes
February 24, 2010

Mention Ducati and you know that you're about to embark on an adrenaline-pumping trip, as the company is working on frameless superbikes. The first of these would be an aluminium version of its GP10’s revolutionary carbon design. that new patent application aims to protect the composite semi-monococque design, and is a direction where Ducati clearly believes that could revolutionize the next generation of superbikes. What do you think of a frameless design?

Panasonic Skype in TV hands-on
January 8, 2010

[CES 2010] We went to check the live demo of Skype embedded in Panasonic's HDTVs. It seems very simple to use (more so than on a PC), and you really get full screen video, but that's definitely not in HD. The subject matter was in SD, and upscale with filters to prevent blockiness by adding… blurriness. The new PC Skype has HD video, but I have not had moment to experiment it yet. To capture the video, there's a wide-angle camera accessory designed to show folks in "full-body" profile, depending on the distance obviously. In the end, that looks like a good implementation and I like the direction in which that is going. As HDTVs become more programmable, they will have more apps, and services. You will pay a premium at first, but that will soon be a standard feature.

Ballbot robot has a ball of a time
December 23, 2009

The Ballbot robot is not what you think of it to be - get the mind out of the gutter. Instead, that electronic lifeform is named so as it shimmies around on a one large ball, where its greatest strength would be to be able to fit into smaller spaces, boasting both smooth and graceful movement. The robot itself comes with an onboard controller which will interpret collected documents using an outdated processor - a 200MHz Pentium. A Crossbow Technology VG700CA-200 Inertial Measuring Unit (IMU) does all the calculations to help it maintain its balance and move in the desired direction.

Shanzai All-in-One PC
December 18, 2009

The trend for all-in-one (AIO) machines is moving in a favorable direction, and Shanzai aims to exploit that lucrative market window by lining up a handful of AIOs which sport the next-gen dual-core Intel Atom processor stored within a chassis that holds a 18.5” display. Other specifications include 1GB RAM and a 160GB hard drive, an optical drive, a memory card reader alongside wireless capability for both keyboard and mouse pripherals. No view on pricing at press moment yet though, but expect it to give other more established manufacturers a hard date with their expected lower prices.

Gold PS3 now available
December 9, 2009

You might not have the Midas touch to turn everything into gold whenever you come into contact with them, but you could very well bring home that gold plated PS3 for $4,999, making that the showcase piece in any living room. It does assemble me wonder where I can purchase an additional (and equally luxurious) controller unless flying solo is the direction of that gold PS3.

Google To Add Sidebar
November 22, 2009

While Google is doing quite well (to say the least) with its search business, it’s great to see that Google is still paying attention to details and willing to try out new stuff. Google’s vice president of search product and user experience has said that Google will soon start analyzing a new permanent sidebar on its results page. It seems that users are happy with that direction that Google is taking, and it would certainly help us filter through the giant pile of details from Google.
