Dubbed the Copenhagen wheel, the wheel itself comes with a battery that stores energy generated each instance you step on the brakes. that energy can be returned to help you out when tackling a specific hill or giving you that additional boost of speed. A sensor within the hub will measure your effort while you ride, where pedaling forward will cause the wheel’s electric motor to give you a boost. Should you brake, the motor regenerates, helping you slow down while juicing up its batteries. that ought to go some way in encouraging folks to cycle more than they ride their car, particularly when it involves errands just a few blocks down the road. The Copenhagen wheel is expected to reach in the market within one year, where it should retail amidst $500 and $1,000. Can’t they manufacture it more affordable for emerging markets?

The city of Copenhagen in Denmark will go green that year where Christmas celebrations are concerned, and we’re not talking about the color of its trees. In fact, their traditional Christmas tree set up at their City Hall Square will boast energy-efficient LED lights that are powered by humans, where 15 bicycles are available for anyone and everyone to pedal in order to capability all 700 LED bulbs dotted along the entire tree. Good way to keep warm in the freezing weather as well, eh?

While most folks believe the economy is beginning to recover, some folks will probably still feel the effects of it, particularly after Nokia announced that it would cut 330 jobs in its research and development group, which will be spread within an office in Oulu and Copenhagen. The cuts will represent just under 2 percent of its entire research team, so it’s not that big a hit, and Nokia says that it’s only meant to reflect the company’s “focused portfolio of future products”. Hopefully future Nokia phones will still be cool and innovative, and hopefully not affected by that round of job cuts.
