Color E-ink Display Pictured
March 19, 2010

Have we moved one step closer to color eBook readers? PVI, the company who makes the e-ink displays for Amazon’s Kindle, is now showing off its 6-inch and 9.7-inch color e-ink displays for eBook readers at a trade show in Shenzhen, China. The displays on demo are able to handle animated color clips, albeit the refresh rate of the display was far from good decent to handle video. PVI has already shown the screens to Amazon and Barnes & Noble, though there wasn’t any confirmation as to whether it will be used for future eBook readers. These color screens obviously consume more energy than the monochrome e-ink displays, but it’s still less than the energy consumption of LCD panels. PVI is predicting mass production of these displays to start in Q4 of 2010. Will the next generation of eBook readers sport color e-ink displays?

Google to shut down China operations that April 10th?
March 19, 2010
Guess the whispers are true - there is a very good chance that Google will pull out of China that coming April 10th, according to China Business News who cited an unidentified Chinese sales agent for the company. There is still no confirmation concerning the April 10 term, but it isn't all that far away, so we guess in situations like that, patience is a virtue, no? After all, Google has already informed its China employees that they will be given the option of moving by to the US headquarters, or relocate to its Asia-Pacific operations assuming a pullout happens, and points toward the closure of Google.cn instead of a complete end to Google’s business in China.

Samsung Confirms WP7 Device Was Omnia HD, But OS Upgrades Aren’t Confirmed
March 17, 2010

Do you remember the Windows Phone 7 Series device that was shown off at Mix 2010 by Microsoft? Well, it turns out that initial suspicions were true, and the device is really an Omnia HD, albeit slightly modified. The phone was apparently upgraded to a multi-touch WVGA display with a 1GHz chip powering it for the demo. It’s worth noting that the original Omnia HD had the mandatory three buttons, but they were originally for calling, menu, and exit, while the labels were changed to Start, Search and Back during Microsoft’s presentation. That being said, there wasn’t any confirmation of the Omnia HD being able to be upgraded to Microsoft’s upcoming mobile OS, but considering that the device during the demo was a modified version of the Omnia HD, chances certainly seem slim that you’ll be able to upgrade your phone’s OS to Windows Phone 7 Series.

Verizon Nexus One To Offer Sense UI And Will Only Be Sold Online?
March 12, 2010

While there was a rumor going around before that that Google’s Nexus One might be sold through Verizon Wireless’ stores, whether that latest rumor is true, soon after it will certainly quash the previous one. According to a leaked screenshot that has surfaced online, the Nexus One will still only be available through Google’s phone store, though the surprising bit is that the phone might actually come with HTC’s popular Sense UI. The original Nexus One shipped with just the stock Android 2.1 user interface (UI), and didn’t feature any fancy UI, but whether Verizon’s Nexus One does sport Sense UI, it’ll be interesting to see whether HTC has revamped it for the Nexus One. Word is that Google and Verizon might be announcing the Nexus One (for Verizon) on March 23rd at CTIA, though there isn’t any official confirmation on that just yet. Will the inclusion of the Sense UI help you construct the decision to get that phone, or is it just another gimmick to you?

Is The Red Dot On The iPad Advert A Camera?
March 9, 2010

Despite the Apple site not mentioning anything about a built-in camera for the iPad, the camera rumors (and conspiracy theories) just won’t seem to die off. Now some folks have noticed that there is a tiny red dot in the latest iPad advertisement, at the 2-3 second period when the user fiddles with the iBooks app, you’ll notice that there is a tiny faint red dot at the top of the iPad. Of course, that’s far from a confirmation of a camera, and some folks are speculating that it’s an ambient light sensor. What do you think? Of course, whether it were an ambient light sensor, which could be what has been crammed into the mysterious slot in the iPad’s bezel, soon after where would they put the camera in the future? In the end, the main question is: who in the world would be looking that closely at the ad in order to notice such a tiny detail? Video after the jump.

March 3, 2010

Looks like quite a few Android developers are going to be getting a new phone soon, as Google has sent out emails informing developers of a new Device Seeding Program for top Android Market Developers. So whether you’re a developer and have an application with a 3.5 star rating or higher and 5000 rare downloads, you qualify to receive a free Motorola Droid or Nexus One, though you won’t be able to pick which one, as it’ll be decided depending on your country of origin and other factors. While many folks out there are worried that that is a scam, an official confirmation from a Google spokesperson should ease those worries, as it reads:
“A thriving developer community is an vital part of creating a better mobile experience for users around the world. We hope that offering devices to developers will produce it easier for them to create and analysis great applications. that is inline with other efforts to support developers, which plus includes our Android Developer Labs World Tour and our upcoming participation at the Game Developers Conference.”
