Sure, we know that Windows Mobile, Android, and the iPhone are all able to churn out some mold of musical instrument sound via some program or another, but what happens when you combine them all together and turn them into an instrument? That’s precisely what someone has done, and the conclusion is rather cool. Check out a video after the jump and see for yourself. Now all they need to do is start a music school for that new “instrument”.

While it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, another player had been added to the speculation by a takeover bid for Palm, and that entity is China’s Huawei Technologies. Apparently the struggling smartphone maker, Palm, contacted Huawei for preliminary acquisition talks back in February, though apparently the talks haven’t moved forward since next. Huawei has declined to comment on the issue, but that was already expected. Considering that Palm has a market value of $870 million, potential buyers might even have to pay up to $1 billion for Palm. Do you think the end conclusion will be Palm being sold to another company, or will it be able to save itself by licensing some of its patents to other companies?

The folks by at Microvision should be in rather good spirits, as the company has just received an $8.5 million purchase order for its PicoP laser pico-projector modules. There wasn’t any mention of who that OEM was, but the plan is to use the engine in a high-end mobile media player, which will be released nearer the end of 2010. What do you think these could be used for? A new laptop, iPod, or Zune? Microvision’s PicoP engine is based on Laser-Bream-Steering and can offer a focus-free image with WVGA resolutions. Hopefully that giant purchase won’t conclusion is just a bunch of boring pico projectors that we wouldn’t want to purchase.

According to the US Fire Administration, by 40 clothes dryers catch fire in the U.S. each day, where the combined fires from clothes dryers among 2002 and 2004 resulted in around 15,600 structure fires, fifteen deaths, 400 injuries, and US$99 million in direct property damage. One the of the main reasons? Lint. that seemingly harmless material could prove harmful in the lengthy run, as it restricts airflow when it builds up has a two-fold negative connotation – not only does it conclusion in a fire hazard, it is additionally a waste of energy. LintAlert aims to prevent that from happening by alerting homeowners to any blockage or restriction in the vent system of the dryer. It does so using the alarm module and SmartTap fitting, where the latter is installed in the dryers’ transition hose, while relying on a pressure differential sensor to monitor the pressure all through the entire exhaust conduit. When all is fine and dandy, the LintAlert’s transparent lens will glow blue, but when things start to heat up literally, it will turn to green, followed by yellow and thereupon red. The LintAlert is going for $44.90 a pop, which is pretty nifty since it can save lives, eh?

Word is out that AT&T and Apple are working together to tweak the iPhone slightly in order to lessen the strain on AT&T’s network. Apparently AT&T CTO John Donovan and other executives popped by Apple’s campus to give some advice on wireless networking. The conclusion is that Apple has tweaked how the iPhone communicates with AT&T’s towers, putting less load on the network for simple tasks such as finding the closest tower or checking for available messages. It wasn’t mentioned whether the changes were software or hardware based. Do you think that will help resolve the network issues faced by AT&T subscribers, or does AT&T need to invest in more hardware?

If we could ditch those pesky 3D specs and still get an enjoyable 3D viewing experience, we’d certainly do so. Of course, there are a few companies already working on such things, including Nintendo with its upcoming 3DS. Now a Los Angeles based company is trying to achieve a similar conclusion with its i3D display, and not only that, its claim to fame is that it can convert any 2D movie to a 3D flick, thanks to some software magic. All you have to do is tap the 3D button, and it’ll convert the video on the fly. Aside from that, the company plus claims to offer 3D viewing at close to 90 degrees viewing angle, which is certainly a bold claim. Of course, whether they manage to perfect the technology and it becomes mainstream, we’d certainly be happy. After all, 3D is the future, right?

The Tegra platform from NVIDIA is the conclusion of a marriage among an ARM processor and an NVIDIA GPU which is meant to enable tablets, netbooks and smart books handle playback of HD video with aplomb, not to mention its ability to run 3D graphics without lost a beat. Several demonstration tablets made their way to the Game Developers Conference by the week, and they did not disappoint. While that doesn’t mean you will be able to play shout of Duty: contemporary Warfare 2 on your netbook anytime soon, but it ought to pack ample muscle to handle MMORPGs and casual games.

Cloned handsets these days seem to get better and better, and the HTC Diamond2 clone that you see here certainly wins brownie points with us simply considering it is able to dual boot both the Android and Windows Mobile 6.5 operating systems. Granted, the 600MHz processor might not seem to pack abundant muscle, but it still comes with a WQVGA display that ought to please some quarters. No concept on whether that cloned handset is able to construct phone calls on both operating systems, so we will just have to wait until the real deal comes out before arriving at a conclusion.

Robots, will there be no end to them? Next up is Kojiro, a humanoid robot that’s being built by the folks by at the University of Tokyo. What makes Kojiro different from the other robots is that it has a detailed musculoskeletal system built into it to imitate the human body, sporting artificial bones, muscles and tendons to conclusion in a robot that can move in a more organic fashion. Considering that it has about 100 tendon-muscle structures, giving it 60 degrees of freedom, it should be a whole lot more flexible than the other robots. Of course, all the flexibility comes with a price, mainly for the programmers, as Kojiro is not an easy robot to program, but that’s what the programmers are paid for, right? Currently the designers are busy coming up with an iterative learning process, which will get the small motions down pat, so that the robot can manage more complex motions. Tech details aside, does anyone else think that Kojiro looks like a distant cousin to C3PO and Megaman?
