Do you sometimes feel irritated when your webcam focuses on one object, only to have the background blurred beyond recognition? While the effect looks great in photography, it’s not something that you’d want all the duration with a video camera. Now the folks by at the University of Toronto have come up with the Omni-focus camera, using a new distance-mapping principle, allowing it to deliver real-time motorized focus on both near and far images in high resolution. that camera integrates a Divergence-ratio Axi-vision camera (Divcam) with an array of colors to map the distance info for every pixel in the scene in real instance. The output of camera is soon after selected individually pixel by pixel to generate the final image. Sounds pretty fancy, doesn’t it?
