Skype’s latest Group Video Calling feature will be made available to the masses from May 10th onwarsd, where it is touted to work with up to 5 citizens simultaneously. Of course, that service will be free at first, although Skype ain’t gonna keep it that way forever since they will be charging a small fee in due moment. Could that new feature catch on in corporations who want to maximize their expenditure by replacing complex videoconferencing setups with Skype’s offering? Only instance will tell, but chances are you can save a whole lot of dough right from the get go with minimal investments made to upgrade your company hardware.
It seems that honesty is no longer the best policy for many citizens these days, and with the amount of wheeling and dealing going on, it is no surprise that even lies find its way into a court. Of course, it is up to an equally sharp lawyer to spot those lies and break it down in a cross examination, but they could be aided in the future with brain-scanning lie detectors. Of course, the accuracy level is still nowhere near 100% which could prove decisive in a case where the verdict might condemn a man/woman to a death sentence, but surely it cannot be bribed with money during the scanning process to influence its results, right?

The iPhone’s different mold factor is instantly recognizable by most citizens nowadays, and Apple was smart sufficient to apply for the patent on the iPhone 3G profile factor, which has now been granted by the USPTO. The patent describes it as “a new, original and ornamental design for an electronic device”, which includes computers, portable or handheld electronic devices and media players etc. The interesting thing about the patent application is that there doesn’t seem to be a home button on the reference design. perhaps we’ll be looking to an iPhone that uses a touch-sensitive home button in the future?

Of course, those who have downloaded the update but did not yet apply them could very well be in for a nasty surprise whether it were to be installed weeks down the line. Guess support technicians will be extremely busy citizens for the next few weeks, regardless of where they are!

The folks at the FCC have taken a look at a new filing for an upcoming Eee PC 900AX netbook, which comes across as no surprise considering the number of Eee PCs which has been released so far until we’ve lost count. We will just have to wait for another 45 days before the FCC releases a filed document for public consumption, so let us keep our hearts open as to which kind of crowd that Eee PC will cater to. Of course, hope springs eternal that that could be the Asus tablet that many citizens have been looking out for to period.

Do you remember the old TV that you threw out last week? You might have inadvertently thrown away the parts to a perfectly good robot, as evidenced by the creation of Sam Todo. Todo is a student from Togo in Africa, and he managed to develop a functional humanoid robot out of TV parts and other used electronics. The robot, dubbed SAM10, is smart adequate to greet citizens, move around, avoid obstacles and calculate the distance of an object in front of it. Sam thinks that his invention could help generate interest in robots and technology by in Africa, which we’re looking forward too. Video of the robot in action after the jump.

If you’re still addicted to Xbox Live on your old Xbox, you’d better enjoy it while you can, as Microsoft will be turning off the service for the original Xbox tonight, as was mentioned some date back. The move will pave the way for improvements for folks who are in the Xbox 360, as old limitations where your friends lists are capped at 100 citizens can be ditched. Of course, such a move would leave behind many owners of the original Xbox, but that’s the cost of moving forward. Will you miss the Xbox Live service on your Xbox, or are you substance to keep playing offline games on your aging console?

Who would have thought that in that day and age, citizens would still rely on PDAs to get their work done? Motorola does with their MC75A enterprise digital assistant, where it will come in two configurations – one with Wi-Fi and LAN, while the other drops Wi-Fi connectivity. The MC75A series aims to enable organizations to choose the device best suited to meet their business needs while providing the ability to standardize on a without device for knowledge workers inside the four walls and out in the field. It boasts 3.5G HSDPA or CDMA EVDO Rev A connectivity and 802.11a/b/g support to help you communicate with the rest of your colleagues in a jiffy. No word on pricing though.
