By now you’ve probably heard of Google’s spat with the Chinese government, particularly the bit where Google threatened to pull out of China. According to the latest rumblings on the Web, Google is preparing to close Google.cn. Aside from that, the search engine giant is unwilling to hand by management of Google.cn to a local entity. Despite that, other Chinese operations owned by Google will continue to go on, including a research centre in Beijing and a sales team that sells advertising on the Chinese-language Google.com search service (based outside of China) to advertisers inside the country. Do you think that the closure of Google.cn (if it materializes) is a big deal, or inconsequential to you?

Google just revealed that they will postpone the release of two of their cellphones running on the Android operating system in China without providing any further info on the reason behind the action, but one somewhat dependable source did mention that Google felt these handsets should be withheld at the moment due to the current situation involving its Chinese operations and its Chinese-language search engine. For some context, Google is currently negotiating with Chinese authorities by the government’s requirement which requires Google to censor searches on its Chinese search engine, which goes against Google’s policy.

The product itself, however, is unlike anything Apple has ever produced. It's an old-school clamshell device, rather than an all-screen touch phone. additionally interesting and objectionable is that the phone uses an operating system that has no Chinese-language capability, so that phone is built for export outside of China.
