The good news is that a leak from The Shack’s internal website has surfaced, showing that the phone will be coming soon, and pre-orders will start later that month, so it shouldn’t be too lengthy before you’ll be able to hug that WiMAX-toting phone while you sleep at night. In case you’ve forgotten, the HTC EVO 4G sports some rather cool specifications such as Android 2.1, 8-megapixel camera, 4.3-inch 480 x 800 pixel display and 1GHz Snapdragon processor.

Sony is gearing up to take on the Microsoft Surface with a similar offering that is due that June. We’re talking about the atracTable that was first shown at Vision 2009 last year (video after the jump). The company behind it, Atracsys, has sold its technology to Sony, and Sony has plans to industrialize a 35-inch atracTable in order to compete against the Microsoft Surface. Just like Microsoft Surface, the tablet will allow users to place devices like a cell phone or coffee cup on the table for more interaction options. The system developed among Sony ISS and Atracsys claim s to be able to analyze body movements and act on any gesture or change in position, including your body, arm, hand or finger. Will our living rooms all boast smart coffee tables in the next few years?

Looks like there is some good news for McAfee, despite the recent boo boo, the defense company has announced the availability of its McAfee VirusScan Mobile technology for Google’s Android platform. The strange thing is that it’s currently only available in South Korea for the Motorola XT720 for SK Telecom subscribers. Subscribers are currently able to download it for free via SK’s TStore. The anti-malware solution is designed to protect Android phones against malware, and additionally secure users’ personal data while ensuring critical communication functions work while users are on the move. Hopefully its self-moving protection and real-time scanning don’t drain the juice on your cell phone too much, though.

In a recent discussion, Motorola Co-CEO Sanjay Jha has confirmed that the cell phone giant is very engaged in the tablet arena and is still intimately involved in said market, causing speculation that Motorola would be interested in coming up with its own tablet device. While that is certainly a good tip that Motorola is keeping tabs on the tablet device industry, there isn’t any official confirmation that Motorola would be looking into coming up with its own tablet device just yet, but with so many major manufacturers gearing up to get a taste of the tablet scene, it’s not too farfetched to think that Motorola might eventually roll out a device to compete with the iPad.

Reports were going around yesterday that Motorola would be ditching Google in favor of Skyhook when the announcement of its Skyhook partnership presented yesterday. Now Motorola has released a statement via its Facebook page stating that the move bears no ill-intentions towards Google and is only planning to use Skyhook to enhance the abilities of its location-based services and apps. The cell phone giant confirmed that both Google Maps and Skyhook will be able to live on the same device.

Not everybody might want to sport a red colored cell phone, but you have to confess that that being constantly offered white or black colored phones will eventually become boring. A picture of a red BlackBerry Curve 8520 has surfaced, hinting that it could be possibly be offered on T-Mobile by May 19th. Aside from the color scheme, specifications are pretty much the same as the current BlackBerry Curve 8520.

Getting a cell phone to work enlarged term in a rural area is never an easy task, particularly whether your closest source of electricity is miles away. Industrial designer Andrew Williams is looking to try and tackle that issue with his concept cell phone design, dubbed the “Communication for Rural Africa”. Unlike your normal cell phones, that one doesn’t even have a battery; rather it is powered directly by a solar panel. Its minimalistic design means that there is only one button (and no other interface). When the button is pressed, it connects the user to a local operator who can soon after connect the signal to a desired party, eliminating the issue of having to remember troublesome phone numbers. Not too poor eh?
