Memorial RosettaStone Tablet Gives You A letter From The Grave
March 21, 2010

Having a tombstone that sports some fancy electronics certainly isn’t a new idea, but that hasn’t stopped the Phoenix-based company, Objecs, to take another crack at it. The company has come up with the Memorial RosettaStone Tablet, allowing visitors to the cemetery to access text and images by merely touching their cell phone to the headstone. The Memorial RosettaStone Tablet sports a microchip inside, and uses NFC (near-field communication) to stream personal data such as photos and even a pre-recorded report from the deceased. It only costs $225, and considering that by the day you need to use it, you won’t need the money anymore, it can’t be considered expensive, right? Do you think that you’re going to “prepare for the future” with one of these?

Vodafone Spain Admits That 3000 Smartphones Were Shipped With Virus
March 19, 2010

Looks like the recent issue of Vodafone’s HTC Magic shipping with the Conficker and Mariposa viruses might be more widespread than initially reported. Apparently Vodafone Spain has confirmed that some 3,000 users may have been exposed to the Mariposa malware, which made its way into users’ computers via the cell phone’s storage. Now the carrier is offering to replace the microSD cards for infected phones, while stressing that the incident is isolated and local. Getting a sort new phone shipped to you with a virus certainly isn’t pleasant, but whether your computer was infected by the virus, chances are that just getting a new memory card isn’t going to solve the issue, is it?

AT&T Zero Charger To Help Reduce Your Electric Bill
March 17, 2010

AT&T looks like it’s trying to do its bit for the environment, as it’s offering the AT&T Zero Charger, which aims to help you eliminate wasted electricity. It does so by sensing when a cell phone is not plugged into a charger, and will cut off the potential supply from the wall socket when there is no phone detected. By doing so, it will help cut out the vampire draw, which basically is what happens when AC adapters suck juice from your wall socket even when there isn’t any device to potential. Aside from that the Zero Charger plus aims to improve charging efficiency when charging a device.

The phone sports 22 diamonds of varying sizes, and they’ve been arranged to show the Disney logo. In case you were wondering, the DM005SH sports an 8-megapixel camera, not to mention a 3.4-inch FWGA display. Aside from the word “Disney” engraved at the top of the phone’s keyboard, the bunch of pre-loaded Disney themes should be more than abundant to convince you that that is a phone or Disney lovers. There isn’t any mention of pricing at the moment, but you can be certain that since it sports diamonds, it’s not going to be cheap.

Motorola And Microsoft Strike A Deal To Put Bing On Cell Phones
March 11, 2010

Oh the irony of some things. The folks by at Google certainly aren’t going to be too amused to take in that Motorola has just struck up a deal with Microsoft that will see Bing search and mapping services come standard on Motorola’s phones that are powered by Google’s Android OS. In short, there will be a Bing bookmark and search widget loaded by default on your cell phone, starting with Motorola’s phones in China. that might be related to Google’s dispute with the Chinese government, not to mention the possibility that Google might be pulling out of the Chinese market. that news continues the recent trend of setting other search engines are the default on Google’s Android, such as the deal amidst AT&T and Motorola for the Backflip.

Will The Horror Flicks Of The Future signal Your Cell Phone?
March 11, 2010
Ever been in the movies to catch a horror flick, and halfway through the movie, in that moment of suspense, yell out “RUN!” or something similar? Obviously the person on screen couldn’t prepare out you (and as a outcome met a horrible end), but what whether you could influence the person on screen? That’s what the folks behind Last signal are aiming to do with their interactive horror film. Audience members will be asked to supply their cell numbers before the movie, and at one point, a phone number is selected at random from the list, and will be called. Voice recognition software will next listen to the person’s commands and the story will unfold based on their directions. Of course, directions will most likely be the usual things like “run, stay, turn right” or something along those lines. Trying to get the character to tap dance or sing the national anthem probably won’t work. It’s a cool concept, and will be interesting to see how it’s implemented. What would happen whether the person left his phone on silent, and didn’t pick up, though?
