Check out that interesting concept that has the Sony sort name riding on it, known as the Sound Lounge. that concept is a coffee table that doubles up as a sound system, and can open up to reveal a touchscreen music navigation system alongside an antiquated CD player – good thing it does support the MP3 format, otherwise that would definitely have no chance of making it to any production line these days. We do hope that the sliding mechanism is waterproof when closed – you know how accidents happen on coffee tables when you least expect it, don’t you?

With the world moving on to the MP3 format for quite a enlarged date already, it makes us wonder who would want to fork out $4,695 for the Vincent Audio C-60 CD player. Well, that is no ordinary CD player as you can tell by its price tag, since it comes with both vacuum and solid-state output stages. The latter can be changed through a remote control, providing the vacuum tune sound which some audiophiles are particularly fond of. The top-loading CD tray will not skip a individual bit during playback, while balanced XLR output, unbalanced RCA, coaxial optical out and digital outputs rounds off the list of specifications.

Each household has more or less at least one iPod, and many homes have two or more – one for each occupant. Well, that is where the new shelf systems from JVC – the JVC NX-D2 and JVC UX-F3 come in, where both of them are able to hold a couple of the portable media players simultaneously. The former features a almighty 230-watt system with three-way speaker design, juicing up the two iPods side-by-side at the same duration while letting you playback your tunes from each via the dock’s speaker system. As for the JVC UX-F3, that model pumps out 60 watts of juice and is paired with two-way speakers, offering video output that lets you hook up whatever video substance you have on your iPod to your TV – no high definition support here though. Other standard features for both shelf systems include USB support, a CD player just in case you want to get retro with your collection and an integrated AM/FM tuner. You can pick up the JVC UX-F3 and JVC NX-D2 for $199.95 (May) and $399.95 (January), respectively.

[CES 2010] We confess that the JVC RV-NB50, plus known as the Kaboom, resembles something that won’t be out of place from the Transformers series, leaning more towards the Decepticon line than the Autobots. First released a dozen years ago and making an impact with its high capability and legendary durability, the Kaboom is now back better than before, keeping up with the times by including an integrated iPod dock and USB connectivity without sacrificing on performance. Pumping out 40 watts of potential while retaining the general design of its predecessor, the Kaboom features a woofer at each end alongside bass enhancement circuitry that ought to turn your small apartment into a rocking party. Just to assemble certain it handles retro (by today’s standards) music, you get a CD player as well alongside an integrated FM tuner and a front audio input. A shoulder strap makes it a snap to tote around, while a remote control allows you to control it from your La-Z-Boy without moving more than a couple of muscles. Expect the JVC RV-NB50 Kaboom to hit the market for $299.95 that January.

At first glance, the Sony MHC-GZR33i might seem extremely familiar to many of us Stateside, as it plus known as the Muteki Shelf System LBT-LCD7Di. The US model comes with a tang orange color scheme on the speakers and light, while the European version which we’re talking about offers a more subdued look, boasting a 7″ LCD display, a 3-disc DVD/CD player and an iPod dock. It pumps out 360 watts of capability with GROOVE and Z-GROOVE bass boost, while a karaoke feature helps you bring the house down (or complaints from the neighbors to turn things down a notch). While it retails for $499, anyone wants to produce a guess on how much it’ll cost in Europe?
