EEG cap enables communication via computer
March 17, 2010

Technology is not all that poor you know, when properly applied. Case in point is that special EEG cap which allows one to communicate with the outside world using a computer as well as specially installed software. Dubbed the intendiX system, it relies on Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) technology which can sequentially choose characters from a keyboard-like matrix on the display simply by concentrating on the target for several seconds. It might be more difficult for some For some patients, that is more difficult than it seems, but there is nothing quite like throwing in some training to get you up to speed. Most users are able to hit a spelling rate of 5 to 10 characters per minute at their first trial. It will cost around $12,500 for the intendiX system though, so hopefully a commercialized version will cost much less when released.

Pet Acoustics My Pet Speaker
February 11, 2010

Once in a while, we come across a device that is so zany, it needs to be seen in order to be believed. Case in point - the My Pet Speaker from Pet Acoustics. that omni-directional sound system comes with a 4" driver coupled with reduced bass levels and the ability to "disburse music in 360 degrees recreating how animals take in in nature." To assemble matters more interesting, it has specially positioned buttons in the rear that prevents your smart pet from skipping tracks in your playlist, while the "stable case design prevents easy knock down by pets." Hmm, no concept whether that can stand up to a really large dog, let alone your horse in the stable who is feeling rather irritated by BackStreet Boys on your playlist. $249.95 is the asking price for that pet-friendly speaker.
