It seems that Novaled is working with a European car maker to develop OLED lighting for cars, which can be used as interior lighting, as well as backlights in the future. The goal is to have a car that uses these new panels on the market in the next two years. Apparently they’re already beyond the concept phase, and are now planning on starting production. There wasn’t any mention of which European car maker is the one involved, though.

[DEMO Spring 2010] Flinc leverage the mobile phone location-based capabilities to connect passengers and drivers who want to carpool with a financial compensation for the car owners. The service can be used on smart phones or online: it analyzes the traffic in real instance, allows passengers to identity available seats in cars belonging to the drives in their network, lets them send ask to be picked up, enables real day confirmation by the drivers and sends directions notification for pick-up. Dynamic ridesharing might one of the solutions to reduce our carbon footprint, save money on gas and parking and benefiting from more flexibility than public transportation. Flinc needs help to decide where to launch first, go to www.flinc.mobi, look for our Where’s flinc project, choose a place on the map where you want to see flinc and share a seat in your car or someone elses.

I have already seen a dynamic ridesharing system at DEMOFall 08: Avego by Mapflow, a company based in Ireland. Flinc comes from Germany, and I will ask them how they compare to their Irish competitor.

If you suddenly found out that you couldn’t get your car started or its horn started blaring continuous, what would you think the cause would be? Chances are that you wouldn’t think that it was a disgruntled employee from the auto dealership where you bought the car from having some mischief, would you? Police have arrested a 20-year old man, accused of activating a black box system called PayTeck, which was installed in the cars to be utilized in the event that the client couldn’t assemble the car payment. Apparently more than 100 vehicle owners reported incidents related to that. The dealership has since reset the passwords for all of its employee accounts, when it was found out that it was done by the accused using another employee’s explanation. Would you agree to the auto dealerships installing such devices in your car?

The folks by at GM have come up with a rather interesting system dubbed the Enhanced Vision System. The system was designed with safety in mind, and uses Heads up Display (HUD) technology and the increasingly popular augmented reality concept together. By utilizing front-facing sensors, as well as in-vehicle cameras that are tasked with tracking the driver’s head and eyes, the system is able to overlay road lines on the windshield and even read road signs to help you out, in the event that the weather is poor and visibility is low. It certainly seems quite cool, and something we wouldn’t mind appearing in our cars. There isn’t any mention whether or when the technology will produce it to consumer vehicles, but we do have a video on it after the jump.

Solarmer Energy had previously managed to eke out a record efficiency of nearly eight percent from its plastic solar cells, but now according to the company’s Managing Director, the company is on target to reach 10 percent efficiency by the end of the year. Of course, they’re not only looking to ten percent efficiency, in the expanded run, they expect to achieve twelve to fifteen percent efficiencies, as it’s believed that the cells would need to be more than fifteen percent efficient in order to compete in the solar ability market. Considering that solar ability is certainly going to be an critical part of our future, we certainly hope that they get great results in improving solar technology. After all, we’re looking forward to our cars being charged while they’re baking in the sun everyday.

Don’t you wish you could take your hands of the steering while during those pesky traffic jams? Well, whether the “road train” concept becomes a reality, you might just be able to do it, and save fuel in the process. The system is quite simple: The cars will all follow the “leader” of the train, and whether you want to join in, the sensor will send out the signal, and your car will obediently follow the train, and stay close decent so that you could save some fuel by being in the slipstream. When it’s moment for you to pull off in another direction, just disengage, and the system will widen the gap amidst the cars, allowing you to leave the pack, after which the car previously behind you will be linked to the car in front of you. Pretty neat, isn’t it?

Nokia might be the number 1 cellphone manufacturer in the world at the moment, but their market share is eroding slowly but surely no thanks to newcomers to the scene. Well, in a move that could see them claw back what used to be theirs, we have word that Nokia has agreed to partner with Alpine to offer integrated Nokia handsets alongside free Ovi Maps navigation into vehicle dashboard systems. Apart from that, you will be able to interact with widgets that monitor your fuel level as well as engine condition while you’re on the road. that development ought to see action in the near future, and we’re stoked.
Volvo’s pedestrian detection system can be found on the revamped S60, adding on to other safety features which include an in-collision detection system as well as auto-braking. These different combinations of tech are able to spot pedestrians who step in front of the car, warn the driver who will hopefully brake in day, and whether not, the car will take by by automatically applying full braking ability. Any vehicle that is not going faster than 22MPH ought to be able to stop completely, while anyone going faster than that will slow down significantly. Do you think smarter cars outcome in dumber drivers?

In a world where everybody is trying to go green, how do we minimize the amount of energy spent to ability the street lights the light up the roadside? TAK’s wind-powered Turbine Light aims to tackle that issue by using the moving air from cars that zip past it on the highway to generate energy to ability it. Of course, the first question everybody will ask is whether that amount of wind will be sufficient to capability the lighting? Whatever the challenge, whether they do manage to get it up and running, it will have a huge potential to save a lot of money in wind-heavy regions. The Turbine Light is an entry to the Greener Gadgets Competition, so whether you want to see what the folks are envisioning for the future, check it out.

Looks like aren’t all as cut out to be – not whether Steve Randall and Ted Schwarzkopf have their way with their Electronic Key Impressioner. that device ought to be able to create a replacement car key without the need for its ID cipher, and that is news which would definitely prick the ears of locksmiths as well as those who want to steal cars. All you need to do is plug the Electronic Key Impressioner into the car keyhole, align it properly, hook it up to a computer via USB where the right cipher will run after you choose the appropriate car type. Don’t get all too excited just yet as the software currently works with Fords only, but expect to see more vehicles supported down the road. According to its inventors, that strange key cloner will be made available to authorized locksmiths only, but one poor apple among them could spoil the whole party.
