Offering Apple’s iPhone always seems to put a strain on any carrier’s network, as AT&T found out the hard way. Now Vodafone UK might be feeling the pinch too, as the carrier has confirmed, via its forum, that it’s planning to impose some new charges from June 1st onwards. While the carrier will still be offering 500MB of documents with any bundle plan worth £25 or more, but users who go past the 500MB threshold will be charged £5 for every additional 500MB that they use. Folks who are on a plan that doesn’t include any details will be charged 50p for every 10MB of documents by the basic 25MB. While £5 isn’t a lot of money, nobody likes having to shell out additional moolah, particularly since the carrier previously had 500MB as a fair use threshold, but didn’t charge or throttle the connection unless it started to create problems on the network. Are you comfortable with these new charges, or do you think that it’s a poor deal?

Now that Apple’s iPad 3G is available for sale, some folks have taken the instance to get a T-Mobile SIM card working on the device. There’s nothing wrong with using another carrier’s SIM card on the iPad, but the iPad uses a microSIM size, so the user needs to cut the plastic around the T-Mobile SIM card in order to produce it work. Once the SIM is in, it does work, though the iPad 3G doesn’t support T-Mobile 3G’s band, so you’ll need to drop back to 2G network speeds. Another quirk is that a user additionally managed to get the iPad to send SMS text messages on T-Mobile’s network, something that AT&T doesn’t allow on the normal iPad plan. There isn’t a text messaging app for the iPad, but after jailbreaking the device, it can be done via the command line. Obviously you wouldn’t want to be sending text messages that buy, but it’s nice to know that it can be done. Video after the break.

Nokia’s X-series mobile phones are hip looking music phones, and the X2 is a budget phone that still manages to fit into that category. The phone maintains the tried and tested candybar design and shouldn’t break the bank at €85($112) before carrier subsidies. The phone supports Nokia’s Comes with Music service, offering unlimited music for a whole year, though there isn’t any confirmation whether that service will be offered in the UK just yet. Technical specifications of that phone include:

Dell looks like it’s doing its bit to help form our lives a little easier, as it has just launched its new Dell Mobile Activation Center, eliminating the need for users who purchase a 3G notebook to visit or phone the respective carrier to enable the mobile input service. Via the new method, purchasers will be prompted at checkout to active the Dell notebooks with AT&T or Verizon’s goods card, and a choice of plans will be offered, possibly including further discounts on the hardware. whether progress is making things more convenient for the consumer, we certainly like it.

A screenshot of the HTC Incredible apparently showing up in Verizon’s systems has surfaced, and according to the person who supplied the image, the “On Order” tag in the picture actually indicates that the phones are already in the warehouse, but they’re not ready to be sold just yet. Apparently the phone won’t be shipping to stores that week, but whether Verizon’s already got the phones, you can be certain that the carrier wouldn’t want it to sit there and rot. 156,709 cell phones is certainly a juicy number to sell, and do you think that it will have a fit fight with Sprint’s recently announced HTC EVO 4G?

We already know that AT&T and Apple have allowed iPhone apps to stream video by 3G, but it seems that there is a condition to that. The video app needs to be able to supply a low quality video stream to downgrade to when the going gets rigid (i.e. the network is congested). With that in mind, the apps will need to be able to adapt to network conditions, and when the carrier’s network is having issues, it should be intelligent ample to switch to a less bandwidth intensive stream. Of course, consumers would much rather AT&T just figure out a way to supply sufficient bandwidth so that video streaming won’t be an issue, but until things get better, that is probably the way things are going to be, huh?

Word is that the phone will be going for $199.99 on the standard 3-year contract. It seems that there is a possibility of a mid-April launch, but that’s not officially confirmed just yet. Specifications of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 include:
