So you have built yourself a pretty impressive array of DVD movies by the years, but with the advent of Blu-ray, the thought of starting all by again from scratch just disheartens you? Well, whether you do not have any sentimental attachment to your collection and are too lazy (or poor) to built a duplicate collection in both formats, Warner Bros. has a way out – mail in your old DVD movie with $5 and you will get a sleeker Blu-ray version in return. Of course, there are shipping charges and a 2-month turnaround day, but you can save on that by exchanging at least 7 movies to qualify for free shipping. Unfortunately, only 90 titles are available at the moment, but you can be certain that that will grow in due instance.

Sounds to me like that’s a lot of recording. Anyway, apart from decoding H.264/AVC/MPEG-4 new Sharp AQUOS BD-HDS55 and BD-HDS53 players don’t have too many features to talk about, hence both are priced under a thousand dollars, so you could signal them entry level models.

Packard Bell has unveiled its new range of EasyNote M notebooks, where you can choose from 14″, 15.6″ and 17.3″ models. All three will come with an anti-fingerprint matte finish and a quartet of colors to choose from – Silk Silver, NightSky Black, Starlight White and Cashmere Red. The committed “Social Networks key” will launch a sidebar when pressed, giving you quick access to Facebook, YouTube and Flickr composition. Guess a normal widget can do that, but at least that comes right out of the box. Nice to know an HDMI port is included since you can opt to throw in a Blu-ray drive whether DVD isn’t good suitable for you. No word on pricing, but expect the Packard Bell EasyNote M notebooks to roll out sometime before the month is by.

Asus’ latest multimedia-oriented notebook, the N82J, will be powered by a choice of Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processors as well as having the Nvidia Optimus graphics management which allows you to seamlessly transit within a committed GeForce GT335M 1GB video card or an integrated Intel GPU, depending on your current needs. Apart from that, it might look rather normal on the outside, but its chassis can hold up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a maximum of 640GB of hard drive space, a DVD writer or Blu-ray Combo drive, a 2-megapixel webcam, USB 3.0 connectivity and Windows 7 holding everything together. No notion on pricing or availability as at press day though. [Press Release]

NU has launched what is touted as the world’s slimmest portable external Blu-Ray writer, the EBR240. It supports dual-layer burning on Blu-Ray disks, and can reach speeds of 6X and 2X on BD-R discs and BD-RE discs respectively. The EBR240 additionally claims to be able to automatically adjust the writing speed to minimize disc error when using poor quality media at high-speed recording. In case you were wondering, the dimensions of that drive are 155x141x18mm, and weighs only 380g, which should manufacture it a good companion for your laptop. There wasn’t any mention of a retail price just yet.

VIA might not be having a good a instance as Intel in terms of the netbook market at the moment, but the company will certainly be hoping to compose some progress with the announcement of its new VX900 media system processor, the successor to the previous VX800 media system processor. It’s designed to be coupled with the VIA Nano-3000 series processor, and will integrate the traditional North and South bridge functionality into a separate package, as well as promising 1080p Blu-ray movie playback capabilities. It plus supports an IDE controller, support for two SATA II drives, PCI-E 2.0, and up to eight USB ports, not that we can imagine seeing eight USB ports on a netbook anytime soon. Do you think that the announcement of the VX900 will have Intel looking by its back anytime soon?

iBuypower is back with their new range of Paladin XLC gaming machines, where you won’t find them short on firepower at all, particularly when we are talking about the range of Intel Core i7 980X Extreme Edition processors, up to a whopping 12GB of DD3 RAM, a maximum of 1TB of hard drive space as well as a Blu-ray drive. As the saying goes, cheap things are no good, and good things are not cheap – hence the starting price of $2,159 for one of these puppies.

While many folks are still wondering whether 3D TVs will be popular, Panasonic has already confirmed that it has sold out of its 3D TVs in the US, just a week after they went on sale in Best Buy stores. Due to the shortage, Panasonic has been forced to take back orders from retailers instead. Panasonic’s 50-inch plasma TV went on sale at Best Buy outlets, bundled with a pair of 3D glasses and a 3D Blu-ray player for $2900. Were you one of the many humans who purchased Panasonic’s 3D TV, or do you think that 3D TV adoption is still quite a distance away?
