If you were monitoring the rumors surrounding the iPad before its actual launch, you’ll certainly have come across the essay we posted about Mr. McGraw commenting on the Apple tablet before the event. It was stated that a lot of their subject matter would be on the tablet, but when the announcement came about, and iBooks was on demo, there was no mention of McGraw-Hill, leading to much speculation that they’d been booted off the launch, due to the leak. It’s hard to tell what really transpired, but we do know the reality that they were not mentioned during the launch. Steven Weiss, VP of corporate communications for the McGraw-Hill Companies, did issue a statement, claiming that they were not involved in the process, and whatever was said before was just speculation. What do you think? It reads:

“As a company deeply involved in the digitization of education and business knowledge, we were as interested as anyone in the launch of the new device, although we were never part of the launch event and never in a position to confirm details about the device ahead of day,”

“On Tuesday afternoon, Mr. McGraw arisen on CNBC in a wide-ranging interview to discuss our earnings announcement and growth projections for 2010. His speculative comments about Apple’s pending launch, which he shared earlier in the day in a shout with investors, were simply intended to propose that whether the new device were to use iPhone applications, many of our education products would be compatible with the technology and could be made easily available on it.”

So the rumored Apple tablet will purportedly come with an OLED display, although there are quarters who have a counterpoint in claiming Samsung has more than ample on their hands to be able to fulfill Apple’s demands, but Mitsubishi takes the cake where OLED display size is concerned with a new OLED concept which comprises of 10cm x 10cm square units, measuring a diagonal length of 149″. Yes sir, that is a whole lot larger compared to any current commercial product, where you get 1,088 x 640 resolution at 3mm pixel pitch for sharp, vibrant images that are viewable even at close range. Other features include a light output of 1500cd/m², where the final production model will a few times brighter compared to an ordinary LCD display, making it suitable for indoor as well as outdoor use.

It’s finally here, the event that everybody has been waiting for. Just before we get to the real meat, let’s have a quick recap of what might (or might not) be coming up in the next few hours:

Apple Tablet:

  • Could be 7-inches or 10-inches, though chances are it’ll be 10-inches
  • Powered by a variant of the iPhone OS
  • Will focus a lot of eBooks and reading
  • Has got a deal with McGraw Hill for books
  • Might be going for $800-999 unsubsidized
  • Could be available on AT&T or Verizon
  • Runs iPhone apps

At that point, it’s getting really hard to sift through what’s real and what’s fake. We did come across that “iSlate advertisement”, which does seem rather cool. The video seems nice and clean, though whether it’s real, it certain seems to indicate that our fingers are going to be doing a lot of dancing on the Apple tablet (dubbed iSlate in that video). Anyways, fake or real, it seems like a little bit of casual fun before we hit the nitty gritty of the upcoming event, so stay tuned!
