Whenever a device makes an appearance on the FCC, it is with anticipation that said device will soon hit the market as well, although that is not the case always. The HTC HD mini does seem set for a North America release with its 3G network support, where it will come with the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 operating system, a 3.2″ display and a 600MHz processor. The HD mini is touted to be the budget version of the HD2, but it won’t skimp on multi-touch input and comes with HTC’s own Sense UI as well.

Apart from jumping aboard the Windows Phone 7 Series platform, Samsung additionally has its eyes set on the slate bandwagon, with Emmanuele Silanesu, national product and marketing manager for Samsung Australia’s IT division, letting it out that Samsung would release its slate “in the second half of the year”, where the device will squarely take aim at the consumer market. We can only keep our fingers crossed in anticipation that Samsung’s slate device will prove to be a worthy competitor to the scene.

It was bound to happen, and it seems that scam sites are now riding the wave of anticipation of Apple’s upcoming iPad. Facebook and Twitter pages offering users to beta pop quiz the iPad are surfacing with headers such as “iPad Researchers Wanted – Want to beta analysis Apple’s latest product?” It all seems rather harmless, even when you see the pop-up window portraying to be a quiz, requesting data such as your moment of birth and cellphone number. According to a senior technology consultant at protection firm Sophos, the knowledge provided will them be used to sign you up for a premium rate cellphone service, which will charge you something like $10 a week until you unsubscribe. After Facebook’s defense team was notified about that, the page was disabled, but you can be certain that there will be similar pages that will sprout up the moment one goes down. So whether you see such pages, you’ll certainly want to tread carefully.

Is the Apple tablet the most urgent thing that Steve Jobs has ever done? According to various sources around the World Wide Web, he certainly thinks so. Word is going around that several eyewitnesses, including Apple executives and Jobs’ friends that they’ve heard Jobs say that the project is the “most vital thing I’ve ever done”, and that he’s personally excited about the results. It’s been said for a while now that Steve Jobs has devoted his full attention to the tablet, particularly since he came back from medical leave back in June. whether the iPhone was the outcome of Jobs’ attention, we shudder (in anticipation) to see what the Apple tablet will be like.

CES has always been a hotbed for new technological announcements and advancements, and next year’s event isn’t going to be any different. Sprint and Microsoft are rumored to have a WiMax (4G) Windows Mobile smartphone in the works, waiting for CES 2010 to roll around and catch everyone by surprise. The anticipation is further built-up with invitations sent out for a press conference that will take place a day before CES kicks off officially, where both Sprint and Microsoft CEOs will additionally be in attendance in what is touted to be the “hottest spot at CES”.

Just like there can never be decent handbags and shoes for women, so the same it is for computer users – you can never have sufficient storage space. LaCie steps in with their aptly-named 2Big USB 3.0 RAID drive which is able to hit a theoretical throughput speed of 275 MB/s, which is blazing fast by any standards. All you need to do is compose certain that you computer is running on a USB 3.0-compatible motherboard or has a PCI-E card. There is no word on pricing or availability where the LaCie 2Big is concerned, but whether that is the first effort from LaCie, we can’t help but drool in anticipation of future iterations that will push the envelope even further. Gotta love the design on that device. [Press Release]
