You might feel pretty smug knowing that you have one of the largest HDTVs in the neighborhood, but how does that affect the environment? Environmentally conscious consumers will definitely want to see whether their purchases are eco-friendly (or as close as it gets anyways), and the Energy Star rating is one way to go about it. The latest Energy Star 4.0 standard are touted to be a whole lot greener than its predecessor, where it will reduce the allowable consumption for displays by a wide margin to offer a 40% improvement in efficiency on average compared to Energy Star 3.0 models. Apart from that, any HDTV that has been turned “Off” cannot consume more than a one watt of juice before receiving its next instruction. As enlarged as your HDTV is produced from May 1st onwards, you can be certain that they must comply with Energy Star 4.0 standards. Otherwise, you can always delay your TV purchase till 2012 when the world ends – we jest, when Energy Star 5.0 comes into play.

Our friends at Cloned in China managed to get their hands on the ViewSonic VPC08 which was released sometime last year, and that MID/cellphone hybrid is just not something you would want whether everything else in your gadget collection is thin and slim. Underneath the hood, you will find an Intel Atom Z500 800MHz processor, alongside a MTK 6235 chipset that caters for the phone system. Apart from that, your eyes will be treated to a 4.3″ display at 800 × 480 resolution for Windows XP aims, and a 2″ 240 × 320 resolution display meant for the phone system. Internal storage is provided via an 8GB SSD, while you get Wi-Fi, a 2-megapixel camera and EV-DO 3G radio support. Would you fork out $700 for something like that? It seems to us as though it is occupying no man’s land, and we hope to see future iterations that are sleeker whether it were to move more units in the market.

[CES 2010] Acer aims to deliver a careful balance of performance and value into their latest Aspire AS7740 notebook which boasts the new Intel Core i3 processor, coupled with a widescreen HD display as well as Acer’s acclaimed Gemstone Blue design that are pleasing to the eyes. You won’t find your pocket beleaguered either with prices starting from $599.99 with the AS7740 notebook. Whenever you need to take a break from your work, you can always sit back an enjoy a High Definition movie on the AS7740 thanks to its built-in Blu-ray drive and large 17.3″ display which ought to be more than a treat for your eyes. Gaming isn’t recommended with that (casual titles notwithstanding, of course) as there is no committed graphics card available for that model. The extended post will hold the remaining specifications for your perusal.

Psystar certainly looks like it’s confident in what it believes in. First it takes on Apple on its own turf, and starts selling Mac clones, which resulted in the unsurprising lawsuit from Apple; next it’s trying to secure $24 million in funding to continue development, expansion and “compete directly against Apple”. The reason for such huge figures is due to the sales projections, which probably are a tad out of whack. Based on the projections, Psystar will be selling 12 million computers in 2011, compared to the 768 desktops that it sold from April 2008 to August 2009. That being said, we do wish them all the best, after all, who wouldn’t welcome more competition in the market, right?

Sharkoon of Germany’s SATA hard drive station boasts USB 3.0 connectivity, where the Sharkoon SATA Quickport USB 3.0 aims to ease the passage of cloning, migration and forensic drive analysis in a speedier manner. After all, USB 2.0 drive stations are all the rage these days where such functions are concerned, so seeing USB 3.0 hit the scene is exciting news indeed – who doesn’t want a ten-fold increase in performance anyways? Both 2.5″ and 3.5″ drives are supported for maximum compatibility. Expect the Sharkoon SATA Quickport USB 3.0 to hit the market for approximately $73.
